Orienteering race (Nationals Sprint) 19:19 [5] 2.2 km (8:47 / km)
Woodford-Iona
Quite a few hesitations and got really confused on 9 and 10 (where I mispunched). Other than that had some good legs and even some decent splits which is a little unusual for me. These good splits were generally where I was able to plan ahead or where they were simple legs.
1: Cautious, hesitant, went to wrong control first. -10s
3: hesitant going down hill trying to ensure I was actually going the right way
5: poor route choice. Should have either gone to right of tennis court or directly through (as gates were open at both ends) rather than up and around. Not too expensive though -10s
6: slow and hesitant up rather steep hill. Went around paved area rather than through it, d'oh! -10-20s
9: stuff up. Just didn't see easy route choice around south end of building and around uncrossable fence which, while longer, would have been a very simple, error-free route choice. Just wasn't looking wide enough away from the purple line. Lost at least 30s
10: Was still, I think, a bit confused after 9. Went past 147 - no, not my control. Ran in circles for a bit, ahhh, #147!! Punch and off I go. D'oh, mispunch!
It was a tricky control placement up a narrow alley and even sitting here on the couch I'm still having trouble reading it. Time for new eyes maybe...
11: Still confused and very slow to 11 - went via a rather convoluted out of the way path. Time was ~1 minute down here, wow, didn't realise I was that slow...
12: Left 11 the wrong way up stairs then realised that I really needed to go the other way...
After the cock-ups 8->11 managed to get it together and finish well - ended up being faster than the winner from the road control to finish (although only by 1 second) so if I can keep it together maybe I could be up there in the M50's??
Legs/quads were feeling a little toasted afterwards
