Orienteering race (HH Burnham Beeches) 1:37:33 [3] 15.5 km (6:18 / km) +225m 5:52 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Oroc 340

First starter on the Black course at Burnham Beeches. Generally ran ok, with a few minor hesitations, but I suspect that the main source of time loss is likely to be running speed. Legs were a little heavy, but I think the main cause was lack of aggression through the forest, especially on the longer legs. The forest wasn't that green, and the fences not that high, yet time and again I found myself going very slowly over or round the obstacles. Just a bit too ploddy I suspect. Still, a good workout and the bussing system meant that I was home by lunchtime, even with the Capital One Cup Final traffic to negotiate.

Cycling (Virgin Active Kensington) 1:29:45 [3] 29.1 km (3:05 / km)

Double Myride session with Ivo. Had forgotten how different the bike feels in the warm indoors and out of the wind! :) distance approximate since the counter reset whilst stretching between classes.

HR profile on Garmin.

Ab workout (Virgin Active Kensington) 15:00 [3]
slept:8.0

Brief group exercise working on the abs after the second spin class. Roughly ten of us took part. Mike gave us a series of very specific exercises to work each part in turn, so not feeling too whacked afterwards.

Cycling (Last blast in Tenby) 47:30 [3] 16.5 km (2:53 / km)
slept:6.25

One last trip from Manorbier, from Lamphrey up on to the Ridgeway from West to East, then back to Manorbier past the station. Will miss the hills when back in London (but not the breeze!).

Cycling (Tenby in the wind!) 57:30 [3] 19.1 km (3:01 / km)
slept:7.0

Really tough wind blowing - met office says gusting 45mph - any harder and it would be too dangerous to be on the bike I reckon. Kept it short - basically a trip from the castle to the local bike shop for more supplies and back as quickly as possible!

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)

Rest day clearing work emails and learning all about tubs and clinchers. Have managed to change a tub on my deep sections now in case I puncture and can't resolve it with with the CO2 sealant can - hope not to need to use this new-found knowledge any time soon! :)

Cycling (Preseli Hills loop) 5:33:08 [3] 117.0 km (2:51 / km) +1894m 2:38 / km
slept:8.0

A lull in the wind and I fancied a longer one today. Beautiful Preseli Hills (apparently a source of some of the Stonehenge stones, despite being a long, long way from there) were worth a couple of ascents, heading from Manorbier via Tenby, Narberth, up towards Cardigan, then back from Eglwyswrw (handy for Scrabble!) via Haverford West, over the toll bridge at Pembroke Dock, and back through Pembroke.

Slightly overestimated the time requirement, which meant that the final couple of hours turned into something of a time trial to get back in time for a work phone call. Good way to get the most out of 5 1/2 hours in the saddle! :)

Cycling (Castlemarine loop) 1:54:00 [3] 41.1 km (2:46 / km) +620m 2:35 / km

Sunshine, lots of wind (consistenly 25-30mph), beautiful coastline cliffs - I could be back in Cape Town, other than that it's closer to 8C than 28C! Actually really useful training for the Argus, if it blows that day. Lots of short bursts up hills, and a few longer ones when heading back east, into the stiff wind!
