Note

After taking the Activia challenge (2x their yogurt per day), my GI's been pretty stable for a while, but then , last night, another hit... In some ways this is an improvement (it's been a while) but symptoms were nearly the same, despite nearly 2 weeks w/o issue, which I wouldn't expect if an out of whack microbiome were the cause. So maybe it is some food?

3-hours before I ate dinner - White rice, a few different meaty/spicy Chinese foods with that.
Mid-afternoon had Activia + Airborne (had a tinge of sore throat) + one of the other Microbiome probiotics (hadn't had that since the first one - it was just next to the Airborne..)
Lunch was... a bit of hummus, red-burritos, one with indian spiced chicken, another with pork, avacado... mozerella, mexican cheese blend
Breakfast was boiled large flake oatmeal w/brown sugar, and activia

L-hamstring definitely better today - still generally sore in the whole area, but not too much sharp pain on DT work, and not slowly getting worse during the run today (or yesterday) - unlike 2 (or was that 3?) days ago when I ran ~12k very easy.

GI update - delays before & during today's ~10am run. Rather listless much of the rest of the day. At breakfast had multigrain pancakes, whipped cream, maple syrup, and a bit of the raspberry seeded jam I've eaten much of over the years - but which the last time I ate was also just before an incident. Also had Dr. Pepper, which I think I'll avoid going forward - I only had Mt. Dew as my caffeine in my 'good' week+ at Lake Placid.

1/16 11am, another uncomfortable run delay. And I & Angelica are pretty darn sure I was avoiding dairy & chia seeds pretty well - and the water was the same fridge filtered water that hadn't caused a problem for the last 3 days.

If it is food related, maybe it's something else in Angelica's homemade granola than chia seeds - I think I had some mid-day on 1/15.

Or it's just random bad flora issues.

So I've decided:
- Take a probiotic - had one of these on 1/16 afternoon: http://www.cvs.com/shop/health-medicine/digestive-...
- Eat whatever I want - as of 1/17 PM, I'm still doing fine even after a whole bunch of homemade whipped cream this morning on pancakes, banana dipped in it - and water drank in the shower w/o fear this afternoon...

Note

GI Issue update - No sink water + no dairy + no chia seeds for a week ended Monday, all clear.

Monday night, I drank from the kids sink, Tuesday morning I had a little butter on bread (but I think I did that before), Tuesday 11am, I had a 10 minute delay in starting my training w/very similar, though not esp. severe, symptoms...

Angelica thinks it's the butter, I think it's the sink water. Plan - till next Monday, avoid sink water - but do drink fridge filtered water, and still no dairy.

Then try a big glass of milk in the evening...

Minor Ingress damage to Wilson Farm Park allowed me to set out to rebuild with up to 8 layers - only got to 5 due to a carousel glitch, and another rebuilder (Redavvin) who was unaware of my plans until I met him & said hi...

AJ & I did several zig/zag loops around Chesterbrook, then he went home to run about 7k total while I continued - unfortunately tweaking an ankle to the point of some visible swelling - almost home - just in the neighbor's driveway.... :| He's working to fix it already - I think he gets much more upset at the idea of being injured, than the actual pain.

Note

I've been having some on/off GI issues since about November, that seem similar. They've delayed runs, and are getting annoying & recurring enough, it's time to better root cause and prevent this.

Probably a total of 10 episodes of varying severity, where a mildly bubbly and/or uncomfortable stomach in the background may linger - like today, after what was probably a tie for 2nd worst occurrence.

Issue faded to nothing of note while on vacation in Lake Placid, so I think I can rule out Mt. Dew (& related caffeine delivery by soda) - which seemed possibly related, but which I continued consumption during that trip.

My top 3 suspects are lactose, chia-seeds, and the local water, so I plan to avoid this (incl. bottled water) to see if that stabilizes things - and if so, reintroduce them 1 at a time...

Lactose:
- Symptoms, incl. timing post-consumption, seem somewhat similar to lactose intolerance, which can apparently have mid-life onset.
- + Today, 1.5 hr. before the mid-afternoon onset, I had two esp. cheesy quesadillas for lunch (w/avacado & salsa), and I think one other late eve. incident may have followed a Ben & Jerry's binge.. Also, most other occurrences have been AM - perhaps following an (uncommon) cereal, or perhaps more common yogurt at breakfast?
- - However, I've definitely had at least some cheese and/or yogurt at other times w/o significant symptoms

Chia-seeds:
- Angelica just started adding these to her home-made granolas in about November, and I did have a bunch of this yesterday, which may have just made it through the system by today?
- I plan to avoid all the homemade granola for now.

Water:
- I'm the only one in the household to drink straight from the tap - perhaps something bad, or that I'm esp. sensitive to, is in the water recently?
- I'll start w/bottled water only, then go to filtered, and perhaps tap, if okay...
