I just can't run that fast at night, even on trails. The risk of falling is just too high (I bailed once running down a trail...) I think a hand flash-light would help because the higher distance of the light source from my eyes creates better shadows... Or maybe I need a Headlight...

R Foot a little sore today (got sore last week, or easily inflamed I should say...) On run was just a little sore. Sore after calf work. Better after ankle balance work, ankle band work, and then bag'o'hot water on the ankle.

Rerun of 2wk ago event. ~75 and raining moderately. Lots of spider webs, but still pushed hard enough to take 5 minutes off race time. Although that was the 2nd loop, at ~85 and humid...

Getting a sore throat this evening and the kids have been sick all week. Also, my R-foot was sore from ~minutes 5-20 and then recovered (warmed up?)

US Night O' Champs. Ran hard/navigated hard, but it was pretty rough forest, although with reasonable visibility most of the time. Never great visibility though due to fog as well as forest. Beat by Joe B. (in 60) and Kenny W (in. 68), but still took 3rd due to very light field on Blue (F21 was nearly as full of US-eligibles...), and fairly clean, albeit cautiously slow run.

Much better relatively to competition. Most people were 60-70 (including Waddington at 60, 7 minutes ahead - he'd beaten me by 35 minutes the day before...) Foot good today.

Did especially poor relative to competition on spread out field on bad map in rain. Not sure why as I didn't make too many major mistakes. Probably ~25 minutes though total, in increments not larger than 3 minutes. Probably should have pace counted more and relied on map less (although I don't think I could have gone much further in that direction...) Foot sore on second half and probably affecting push somewhat. Also, I forgot to carry GU, and the race was long...

Rancho 3.6 mile loop. Only about 1 minute off my best ever, the day after a race, so I'm in reasonable shape. I wonder how that happened with light training and no speedwork? I guess I'd better keep that up...

~80 deg.+ and very humid. Got really hot and slow at about 30 minutes into course and goal of beating 1 hour became impossible. Also I ran first so I was usually the one making the elephant tracks through the frequent knee deep forest 'grass' that covered lots of trees... and there were lots of spider webs. Other than that, it was a good course, and I'd like to re-run it on some cool October day...
