Running 11:00 [3] 1.0 mi (11:00 / mi) +30m 10:04 / mi
(injured)

R-foot lightly burned/ached last night despite a light run.

Ran early AM today in orthotics (as usual since this injury, ex. for last Sunday). R-foot felt very mild burn during and after run, but it is distinctly different from the good foot, and even ice doesn't make the feeling go away completely.

Ice & 1 advil after todays' run.

Monday Dec 30, 2002 #

Running 5:00 [2] 0.36 mi (13:54 / mi) +15m 12:18 / mi
(injured)

Plus a ~2min. walking warmup/cooldown, plus ankle/foot exercises. R-foot felt very light burn afterwards on outside bottom. Iced after and took 1 advil.

Sunday Dec 29, 2002 #

Running 11:00 [3] 1.1 mi (10:00 / mi) +15m 9:36 / mi
(injured)

Longest and hardest run since foot injury. Did ~5 minutes walking before and after. R Foot burned very lightly for ~3 hours afterward. I didn't get ice on it until ~ 2hours afterward and took no Advil (child duties prevented the above...)

Not great considering next week I'm planning a 20 minute run, but not too bad... Still borderline as to whether it will get better or worse if training ramps up as planned.

I should probably make sure to keep doing ice ~ every 2 hours even if it doesn't feel like it needs it. I've been on advil for a while though so I'm trying not to use it much this week. Perhaps just 1 or 2/day right after the run?

Running 9:00 [2] 0.6 mi (15:00 / mi) +20m 13:35 / mi
(injured)

Back sore from snow shovelling. Stomach mostly fine.

R-foot didn't hurt at all during run but felt a little weird after. On ~4 advil a day for 2 days now for my back and that's enough for my foot now too. Iced foot after run.

Next few weeks I plan to run 1 hr, 2 hr, 1hr, 3hr if my foot is okay, then only 2,4,3,6 hour weekly cycles.

Thursday Dec 26, 2002 #

Other Aerobic (Snow Shovelling) 30:00 [2]

Shovelled snow around cars (16 inches fell on 70 foot driveway...) and as needed...

Back started hurting when trying to push a car (it was fine while shovelling...)

Sick 1:00 [3]
(sick)

Stomach flu early AM so didn't plan a run today

Other Aerobic (Snow Shovelling) 15:00 [2]

Walking 8:00 [1] 0.5 mi (16:00 / mi)
(injured)

Warmup/Cooldown for very short run. R-Foot felt a little strained, esp. when pushing off toe, but not really painful at all. L-foot doing okay today.

Only 3 advil & 2 ice yesterday, and just took 2 advil and 1st ice today.

Running 2:00 [2] 0.2 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured)

Walking 9:00 [1] 0.5 mi (18:00 / mi) +30m 15:10 / mi
(injured)

Foot injury not bad today, I even ran 1 minute in the middle of the walk. My R foot (normal spot) got a little sore just after I stopped running, but even that went away after another 3 minutes of walking, incl. a steep uphill.

Strangely, though, my left foot, same spot is feeling some very light burn on an off now after the walk. My R foot is totally fine.

2 Advil & Ice after I finished. I think I'm gonna ice both sides the next few times, just to be careful.

Running 1:00 [2] 0.1 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured)

Flat and easy, light test of foot. See other note.

Walking 14:00 [1] 0.8 mi (17:30 / mi)
(injured)

3PM: Moderate pace walk, and trying not to limp, plus park weights in the middle of walk. Foot was 100% until ~3minutes, and noticable but not bad by the end (just a very light dull ache/burn.) Still same spot, R-side of R-foot arch on bottom.

Took first 2 advil and icing after finishing and stretching.

Injury Update 1:00 [3]
(injured)

Ice & Advil x4 today. Foot was getting that dull pain/burn in the evening... I still plan to walk again tomorrow and see what happens...

Monday Dec 16, 2002 #

Walking 10:00 [1] 0.5 mi (20:00 / mi) +25m 17:18 / mi
(injured)

Almost stopped limping by this morning, so I tried an easy 10 minute walk, plus a short uphill/stair around Noon.

Foot was getting a little sore by end, but no worse than 1 minute of walking would have done two days ago.

My advil/ice regemin was not nearly as regular today, just 1000mg IB today, and 3x ice.

Anyway, by about 8 PM there was a very mild, but distinct burn/ache in the spot that had hurt before, even if the foot was in the air. Pain when not in use is new for this injury, so despite how mild it is, that is a concern. Perhaps the walk flared up the injured stuff into more of a tendonitis.

I plan to take tomorrow off, and then do a short walk on Wednesday, probably including some weights.

Walking 1:30 [2] 0.07 mi (21:22 / mi) +20m 11:20 / mi
(injured)

Up a pretty steep bit.

Sunday Dec 15, 2002 #

Strength 1:00 [1]
(injured)

Misc. weights in the park. No calf work for R-foot but did 30 squats off R-foot.

Injury Update
(injured)

I can walk a few steps without noticing my foot is bad now, so it seems better than before. Still probably a few days from running at least.

Injury Update
(injured)

At this point, I can walk with a limp for about 30 meters before it starts turning from discomfort to pain, and at about 100 meters I usually have to go really slow or stop and rest. My poor crushed foot.

I saw a PT this morning (same guy who helped fix my plantar facsitis.) He said it probably wasn't bone related, and might be a tendon/muscle/soft tissue thing (and was in the wrong place to be plantar facsitis again.) He also said I was pretty paranoid to come in just 3 days after injury (but, hey, walking 100 meter sucks big time now, so...)

He recommended I ice every 2 hours, and talk anti-inflamitories. (His exact language on anti-inflamitories was "I'm not allowed to suggest you take anti-inflamatories, but it sure seems like your foot has some inflamation...) Also, if it's still bad in a week further, then come in again (but I'll be back in PA then, so I'll go see someone new...)

So I iced about every 3 hours today for 10-30 mintues, and took 1 advil every 3 hours (ex. the first time, when I took 2.)

It actually seemed a bit better today. Although that may be that it's just not getting worse any more, and I'm getting used to the current level of limping/pain.

I can limp/walk on the inside of my foot with little effort and low pain, or the ball of my foot with a bit more effort, and even less pain. Since I think walking on my toes (ball of my foot) is probably a little better as a 'training' thing, I'm gonna try to do that for a while.

Injury Update
(injured)

Outside bottom of Right foot gets progressively worse while walking, recovers totally will sitting. Web suggests it could be peroneous brevis tendon, esp. with how it slowly builds up and then goes away, and it didn't hurt during race at all.

However, stretching and wiggling foot while not on ground doesn't hurt so maybe it's something else. If it's not noticably better tonight, I should go to a PT in the morning.

Running (Road Race) 41:30 [4] 10.0 km (4:09 / km) +65m 4:01 / km

Hard pace, some crowds to fight through (+:15), but net downhill (-:15). Messed up R-outside part of foot somehow (didn't hurt during race, but walking became painful that evening and for at least the next two days.)

Sunday Dec 1, 2002 #

Running (Warmup) 6:00 [3] 1.0 km (6:00 / km)

Warmups for both races... not much time spent here, but it was darn cold (~30 + wind) which was a bit tough on me logistically, esp. w/ kids & 2 races...

Orienteering 50:27 [4] 7.34 km (6:52 / km) +175m 6:08 / km

1st on Red, but ~5/6th on Blue at split point (behind Sergei, Boris, Mikell, Mihai, tied w/Balter)

Orienteering 12:00 [5] 2.2 mi (5:27 / mi) +50m 5:06 / mi

Relay Leg 2 - short & pushed really hard. Started and finished about 3-4 minutes off lead, caught 2-3 mins on 4th place team.
