Orienteering - Park (Final - Booragul) 35:40 [3] 4.4 km (8:06 / km)
shoes: Slazengers 2012 MkA

Saved ALL my Park Event screw-ups for the Final.
Think most of my Park Finals have been like this.
Had leftovers from last nights dinner for lunch .... and the meal wasn't nice the night before and was worse as leftovers ... so didn't feel great.

Helped tinytoes set-up tables, chairs, clocks, flags etc for the first 45 minutes.
After my Park Event 2 weeks ago I understand the lots of little things that need to get fitted in so helped wherever possible.

I had a look at the map area on google the night before and blew up on the photocopier a 2011 1:10000 Street-O Map of the area 2x to get 1:5000 so expected it would take in both the High School, Art Galley and surrounding bushland. So once revealed the new map pretty much covered what I expected.

#1
I was first starter so didn't have advance knowledge of which way to run.
Made a 90 degree error on map so ran off somewhere towards 26 whilst rockman was looking at me going WTF?
So basically doubled my time and added about 50 seconds here according to attackpoint splits data.

#8
Overshot 'clearing' to left of track by 50 m. Could see forest coming up ahead so turned around and then found it OK but lost about another 40 seconds according to attackpoint splits data.

#10
After screw-up at #8 didn't want to repeat the mistake.
Ran down from #9, around the bend past the first track/clearing on the right then on about 80 m looking for the next track/clearing on the right.
Found a slight break in the lantana and checked it out just in case. Nope. Came back out and the correct track/clearing was about 5 m further on. So lost another 30 seconds according to attackpoint splits data.

#12
Coming directly across from #11 and read the fence as uncrossable (?). So ran down 8 m of contours, around bottom of fence, and then back up 8 m of contours for no reason at all. One of those days.

#15
Wasted more time with confusion about crossability of fence so ran up south side of the fence and came back in near #2 so more time wasted running in around buildings. Didn't realise how much but attackpoint splits says another 30 seconds.

#22
Despite passing this control twice earlier (on the way 5-6 and 14-15 (around the 'uncrossable' fence)) when came back to it I was on the next level down so climbed the wall.

So despite qualifying around the middle of 'B' Class for the final I think I came about 2nd last of the 'B' Class coming 26th of 47 overall.

Helped tinytoes by collecting her kids course ... much to the disappointment of the kids. Demonstrated tinytoes early onset alzheimer's :P in the process as she let out starters after I had already collected #1, #2 and #3!

Helped rockman by collecting 6 controls around the Art Gallery.

And today will be my last attackpoint log for several weeks as I go 'cold turkey' without internet access for a while. Intend to backdate my adventures when internet restored.

Gym Mayfield - Class Weights 55:00 [3]

After 5-7 years being maxed out at 30 kg the gym has finally invested in bigger weight bars. Since these go up to 60 kg I don't think I will get maxed out on these.

Note

Went to work early to find the half the ground floor of the office soaked.
Filter under the sink split apart so torrent running out all weekend.
I isolated at tap and flagged area off until people started arriving.

Luckily for me high tide mark about 5 m from my office but about 20-30 other people having to relocate computers and telephones and work elsewhere.

Starting to stink already.
So the floods are following me from home to work!

Note

Found that, after a week of isolation, the road to Hinton and Morpeth now back open after flooding.
This will reduce the km being travelled back down again.

Driving through here absolutely stinks of damp rotting material.
Sometimes can smell from our house.
No wonder people who get there houses flooded have to throw everything out.

Orienteering - Park Planning (Rathmines) 1:20:00 [1] 4.1 km (19:31 / km)
shoes: Slazengers 2012 MkA

Vetting Sam Howes upcoming (20th March) night event at Rathmines Park as I won't be able to attend.

Nice sunny morning for a walk of the Long Course. Sams course took me through some areas of the park I had never been on previous events. Took the conservative leg to every control rather than the most direct option to mimic what I would do at a night event (as these are my least favourite as spend large proportion of time hopelessly lost).

Sam agreed to move one control to another location but apart from that all OK. After a bit more course fine tuning (trimming control circles, adjusting connecting lines etc) will be ready to go.

Gardening - General 1:50:00 [1]

1:30 pm - 2:20 pm
Finishing off another incompleted job from where fence was demolished and dead hedge removed back in November 2012.
http://www.attackpoint.org/viewlog.jsp/user_6743/p...
Shovelled up wheelbarrow full of soil from redundant garden bed and distributed it around the hollows in the lawn. Flattened area out. Buried dripper line which ran through here. This will now rejoin the general grass area ... unless I decide to restore the fence and gate that was here.

2:20 pm - 3:20 pm
Yet more whippersnipping of various areas including 2nd time through dog yard.

Note

Todays going to be 'odd job' day.
Partner and I written a list of all the minor things / maintenance she wanted done or finished off after months of inaction.
At this house, in summer, need to spend at least 1 day every 3 weeks just catching up all the mowing / whippersnipping to keep the grass manageable.
9 AM

Chore - Clean House Gutters 40:00 [1]

9:20 am - 10:00 am
Fill-in job in between dropping station wagon at Maitland for service, and waiting to get it back.
Last did in December 2012 and there was only 4 bags worth.
Mostly on the uphill side of the block which is closer to the trees.
10 AM

Gardening - General 15:00 [2]

10 am - 10:15 am
Dug 1 wheelbarrows worth of stinking wet rotten leaves and dirt from exit side of drain under drive.
It didn't cope in heavy rain of last fortnight and pipes half blocked again

Last did this back in February 2011 so its taken a long time to silt up.
http://www.attackpoint.org/viewlog.jsp/user_6743/p...
Happily gave up this job when station wagon ready for pickup.
From Wallalong Drainage 2
12 PM

Chore - Clean Shed Gutters 1:05:00 [1]

12:10 pm - 1:15 pm
Considering the amount of rain recently thought I better catch this job up too.
5 1/2 bags leaves.
Again last did in December 2012.
1 PM

Gardening - Mowing (#21 21.5 hrs - 22.1 hrs) 40:00 [0]

1:35 pm - 1:50 pm
Pre mow stick collection yet again.

1:50 pm - 2:30 pm
Redoing the patchy long parts from Thursday and the area next to the shed.
After Fridays use of the push mower this was a return to luxury!
2 PM

Gardening - General 30:00 [1]

2:50 pm - 3:20 pm
Yet more whippersnipping of long parts.

Whippersnipped under hedge running along uphill neighbours fenceline.
Accidentally hit a baby (finger thickness probably 15 - 20 cm long) red belly black snake that was hiding / sleeping under there.
Considering how badly mangled it was thought it was dead but revealed otherwise when I picked it up by the tail. Finished it off as no way it would have recovered.

Gym Mayfield - Class Cycle 30:00 [3] 10.3 km (2:55 / km)

Gym Mayfield - Class Cardio 30:00 [4]

1. 10 laps back and forth across the room doing 10 squat jumps (dropping by 1 each time)
2. 10 laps back and forth across the room doing burpees (increasing by 1 each time)
3. 2000 m on the rowing machine in about 9 minutes
4. Elliptical
5. Lap of oval and twice up and down 3 stories of stairs
6. Elliptical

Tiring just writing about it.
4 PM

Gardening - Mowing 1:35:00 [2]

Brought out the push mower to do the dog yard (as too hard to fit ride-on through gates and around trees) clothes line area, and opposite the garage (as too long to see whats in the grass).
Used the catcher to collect the hay.
Forgot how hard this was after a year of ride-on luxury.
Cutting deck probably 1/3 the width of ride-on and can't push as fast.

How did I used to spend 18 hrs push mowing the entire yard?

Gardening - Mowing (#20 20.3 hrs - 21.5 hrs) 1:20:00 [0]

4:40 pm - 6:00 pm
Been 20 days since last mowed as been way too wet with all the rain.
Wanted to get at least part of it done tonight in case more rain on weekend and also before lunchtime Saturday is a write off for other planned activities.

Grass grown hugely thick everywhere so had to drive slow to get through it.

Didn't remotely get it finished and long bits all over the place.
6 PM

Gardening - General 40:00 [1]

6:20 pm - 7:00 pm
Attempting to start some of the whippersnipping but ran out of time.
Grass still a half cut mess but at least that is 2 hrs less to fit in on weekend if it rains.

Apparently the Dunmore Bridge at Woodville is passable again now so that restores 1 of the roads to our house. That will make my planned trip to Rutherford on Saturday a direct drive rather than having to detour all the way to Raymond Terrace and then up the New England Highway.

The other road via Hinton remains still well and truly submerged.

Note

http://garingal.com.au/cgi-bin/gadget3/reitti.cgi?...

Its interesting looking at the splitalyzer comparing me to the others around me.

My time line is almost perfectly straight for the entire run (compared to winner macey) meaning
- maintained constant speed
- no significant time losses

But pretty much every competitor (selecting 5 either side of my time ie faster and slower) picked up time between 18 and 19 compared to me.
I didn't have any problem here and apart from yelling instructions to a lost Liz Bunn (which would have been minor) I can't explain the loss (especially since my time line remains straight). But if I look at maceys splits he lost time here so perhaps the comparison to him effectively means we both lost time on the same control.

If I compare directly to Nicole or Andrew Haigh I was ahead up to 19. I must have slowed for the 2nd long loop. Hours of potential obsessive review possible!
