Orienteering - Park (#03 Thomas Halton Park) 23:39 [3] 4.2 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Slazengers 2012 MkA

3rd Park Event at Thomas Halton Park.
Didn't push too hard but had a mistake free run.
Attack point splits say I was 17 seconds slow getting to 19 but apart from talking to Liz Bunn 'whilst remaining on the run' who was at the wrong bridge for #10 I can't account for any time loss.
Setter Daniel Orr did the best he could with what is a pretty boring map as very open so just running from one tree/thicket/bench to the next.
Maceys time was as per my prediction with tinytoes at the finish.

Came 21st within seconds of others who normally flog me so happy enough.
Will do some comparison of the time splits later.

Gardening - Stump Removal 45:00 [2]

9:05 am - 9:30 am
One last check of the boundary revealed one more ground level "lawn mower killer" stump within my boundary in a recently cleared area. So chainblocked it out. Mud all over me.

9:30 am - 9:50 am
Washing all the mud off the slings and chainblock, and hanging them up to dry, prior to return to work Monday. So retired from this activity for today.

Note

Another rainy day.

Only intermittant showers during day.

We attempted to drive to Morpeth (via Hinton) to get milk and High Street was totally under water. There was a huge invastion of crickets and spiders with at least one in every 10 square cm on the road tarmac as they had all crawled up from the submerged areas. Can see all the living specs in the photo. It was last flooded like this on Thursday 17th June 2011 but first time Partner has seen it. So twice since we have lived here.

Road from Hinton to Osterley also underwater. Last time I was driving home in the dark and drove through the road when it was like this! Never again. Two 4WDs drove through whilst we were parked gawking.

Apparently the approach to Dunmore Bridge at Woodville also underwater.
So we are cut-off for 2 out of the 3 directions out. Ended up going to get supplies via Raymond Terrace.

Our house at no risk so I am not bothered by this.

UPDATE :

This bridge was only rebuilt in the last 6 months. Just as well didn't flood like this in the middle of construction whilst they had 2 multimillion dollar cranes parked on the (now underwater) riverbank.

Note

Rain rain go away. Come again another day.

Desperation means I have resorted to cleaning out the shed and re-assembling the jigsaw puzzle of disassembled exercise equipment from twin brothers last weekend. Took several hours but have got the frame all back together (after multiple attempts since no copy of instructions passed on) but still trying to figure out how the pulley system to the weights worked.

Gardening - General 1:10:00 [2]

Sick of staying indoors (shed now cleanest it has been in > 1 year but still an unsorted mess) so went out anyway in the drizzle.

Two stumps left to remove from the cleared areas. One in uphill neighbours and one in back big block almost directly under uphill neighbours rear fenceline (I previously got the old ride-on jammed on this one ... prior to ride-on later spectacularly dying).

The one in the uphill neighbours only about 5 cm above ground but ended up being about 1/2 m long underground. Came out easily but ground a total slushy quagmire.
From Wallalong Gardening Part 4

The one in rear block under fenceline turned out to be a 'iceberg' stump. I could only see the tip of it. Turned out to be a massive root from a larger (long gone) tree. Would have been as thick, and as long, as an old railway sleeper.

Once out of the ground too heavy to
(a) lift over fence
(b) transport in wheelbarrow without bogging it at the moment
Dumped it in bush and will cut into smaller chunks later when dry.
Also when dry will have to take a wheelbarrow of dirt there later to fill in the exposed hole.

Note

We must of had an absolute ripper of a downpour on Friday (rain gauge had overflowed but had about another 40 mm in the 24 hrs since last night).
Evidence everywhere of the back trench being totally overwhelmed.

In low point near downhill Neighbours fenceline piles of leaves washed up against trees more than 1 metre away from the edge of the trench!

Debris stuck to the top of all the metal plates used as crossings to they must have gone under too.

Even leaves washed across the top T section so that must have been totally overwhelmed too which I have never previously seen.

Also on the old track lots of fresh gravel been washed along its length.

One (dry) day in winter will have to hire a little excavator and dig the trench whole length deeper. Can't face digging that much out again by hand.

Note

From Miscellaneous

After an unsuccessful google search for instructions took another 40 minutes of experimenting with combinations .... but finally figured out the pulley arrangement (3 stations all effectively work off one set of weights). Only four cables and 3 moving pulleys ... so only so many combinations to try!

So now have a functional 4 sided exercise station.

Gardening - Stump Removal 1:40:00 [3]

Return of the six tonne chainblock.
Brought it home from work for the weekend (as have to drive to Mittagong for customer visit all day tomorrow so not going to work) but had frustration to burn so started tonight.
Last week when uphill Neighbour mowed his newly cleared part I noticed there were still some stumps he had to mow around.
So today pulled out from the newly cleared areas
1 stump from downhil downhill Neighbours
1 stump from downhill Neighbours
1 stump from uphill Neighbours
3 ground level (lawn mower blade killer) stumps from uphill Neighbours after digging down 10 cm around them to get on the sling.

Still got at least 2 to go on weekend.
Hot and muggy so soaked with sweat.
Total pain trying to get wheelbarrow under all the fences .... can only do it where the bottom wire is broken so limited places.
