Fun course at St Patricks and Madeline Bertrand county parks near South Bend, IN. Courses by Thurston Miller. Rain in this area affects the ground in a completely different way than Cincinnati. It wasn't too bad, except crossing a flooded slough-like drainage ditch, which will be one of my epic orienteering memories.
More later. The high points were some crazy vegetation boundary legs, a crazy first leg route choice, and navigating through the tree letters. As I was coming across the lawn from the southeast, I could make out each letter. I decided since my last name starts with R, I should navigate to the notch at the bottom of the R, then up to the circle clearing, then west towards the T and up to the east-west trail. Let's see if the GPS shows it.
A lot of mosquitos. While looking for a dropped control afterwards I put on my shoes before my pants, so I just went with shorts, and it was a mistake. My lower legs are *scratched up*.
{Edit: My GPS track is wrong on the north side of the letters. I got to the north of the letters, then went straight west on the "border trail" to a N-S trail.}
