Orienteering race 1:29:32 [4] 6.9 km (12:58 / km) +170m 11:33 / km

Green Course at Harbin Park, set by orunner.

Nice course. Longer than I wanted, but the Brown had zero big gully crossings, and I was in the mood for big gully crossings. Started a bit cold, and quickly found I was too warm, so I dropped off my jacket on the way to 8 (?). Clean orienteering, but so slow up the hills. Dinner at La Pinata afterwards with a group.

Your Highness (0): It was hard to give the zero to this one. It's a very high budget quasi-stoner flick that is set in a knights and kings era with some LOTR-type vistas and magic thrown in. I can't believe I'm saying this, because I like juvenile humor as much as the next guy, but this movie just crosses some lines. It might end up being liked as a cult favorite, but not by me. (I will say Danny McBride plays this perfectly.)

Cycling 21:10 intensity: (7:20 @1) + (13:46 @2) + (4 @3)
ahr:124 max:141

20 minutes on the bike trainer at the gym. Felt good---was pushing hard but my HR didn't get too high.
10 PM

Swimming 14:00 [3] 0.2 km (1:10:00 / km)

8 lengths of the pool. Did 60 sec recoveries for the first 4 lengths, then had to drop to 90 seconds. My 8th length was a total mess. My HR felt fine, and my arms actually felt pretty good, but I just couldn't coordinate the motions---I lost rhythm 3 times on the last length, and decided doing more was going to encourage poor technique. Definitely getting better.

Gave some stranded motorists a jump start.

Watched 127 Hours. The deleted scenes and alternate ending were good---the alternate ending especially. My niece thought it helped explain the story---she wasn't sure he made it with the original ending (I thought it was obvious, but this is an interesting finding.)

Cycling 30:52 intensity: (12:09 @2) + (10:34 @3) + (8:09 @4)
ahr:138 max:158

Cycling at the gym. 20 minutes on the normal bike, then 10 on the recumbent with wattmeter. Managed 160 for 3 or 4 minutes, then dropped to 125 for the remainder of the ten.

The last 10 minutes really took it out of me.

Swimming 30:00 [3] 0.3 km (1:40:00 / km)

12 lengths of the pool, with 90 seconds recovery (2 minutes on a few, 60 on 1 or 2).

Felt a lot better than last week (when I did 14 lengths). My HR just seems a lot lower than last week, and the recovery faster. Toward the end of the workout, my HR had recovered, but my arms took another 30-60 seconds to de-pump. I think the first thing to go as I get tired is breathing on my weak side. My strong side is just smooth and natural, but as I get tired my weak side has to be this massive violent lurch to the left so I can get my head out of the water to breathe. I know I'm doing something wrong.

Cycling 15:00 [3]

15 minutes on an exercise bike. Had to leave early.

I believe the twinges I felt a month or so ago in my arch were the begins of a more serious type of plantar fasciitis. I'm going to stop using the elliptical, at least for a while. After my night-o on Saturday night, I sat down at the computer to do results, and when I stood up a half-hour later, my heel was mega-sore. I might need to get some squishier O' shoes.
