Orienteering race 7:06:00 [3] 35.5 km (12:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA 3D #2
Raid the Hammer with teammates MJ and Alex.
This was without a doubt the most demanding race I've been on so far. Not so much from a technical standpoint, but more considering the terrain, conditions and the distance. Garmin indicated 35km at the end of it!
Our team ran into unexpected trouble in the Matrix at the very start of the race and ended up losing ~15-20min. That didn't have any impact during the rest of the race as we were able to keep our focus and hit the rest of the checkpoints with good strategy and accuracy. I slowed down significantly at around hour 4 of the race and at moments thought I was going to have to drop it. My teammates really helped me stay in the race and settle into a slower but steady pace. I slowly regained some strength and even had some gas left in the tank foe a home stretch sprint against another team following Cp 22.
Overall, beautiful day in the woods. Great course, great organization, sponsors and volunteers! I will definitely be back for the next year's RTH.
