Day 1 of Western States Championship. I ran several fairly good legs, but had three or four medium-sized mistakes that cost me probably 20 minutes in total. The worst was at #10, where I was supposed to climb a hill, dip through the top of a reentrant, and then climb to a rocky area on the next spur. When I got to the top of the hill, I stupidly thought that I was on the spur -- both were rocky, and looked somewhat similar. It took me probably 4 minutes to figure out my mistake, but only after I had gone back down the hill. So I had to re-climb everything. In retrospect, it was a pretty stupid mistake (especially because as I crested the hill, other runners that I knew were on the red course continued on through the reentrant toward the control.)
