Orienteering race 1:39:31 [4] 7.4 km (13:27 / km)
shoes: Inov8-MudrockIII

Another really well-set course at the Keystone capers. I had a lot of fun on this one, and my navigation was very solid. There were a few small mistakes within the circle on #7 and #13, but nothing too major.

Day 1 of Keystone Capers. Completely botched the first control due to a lack of confidence. I took the left trail, and got confused when I never saw a trail junction past the cemetary. Probably lost 4 minutes, and a bunch of confidence, which made me tentative and somewhat slow for the rest of the day. But for the most part, my navigation was fine -- just felt slow.

I really liked the coursesetting. Especially when the woods are relatively green, it was really appreciated to have some trail options. I'm sure that I'm a minority in the O community on this, but I don't think that running a trail is less fun than running in woods.

Extremely fast sprint course at Armco. The course was a blast, and was a great opportunity to get a good running workout. Armco was an excellent venue for this kind of meet, and Steve did a really nice job of course setting.

I made two mistakes that together probably cost me the 6 seconds that I was behind Steve. I got lured away from my line on #7 by seeing #8 and by not seeing the paved road below. From #9 to #10, I accidentally took a few steps down the road in my attempt to get around the green. Another possible mistake was the route choice out of #11. I never saw the trail along the water and never considered it as an option, but it might have been a bit faster. (Although looking at the splits -- e.g., Vector [who took the trail] vs. dersu [who didn't] -- on that leg, maybe it wasn't)

Another great blazingly-fast sprint course at Armco. I took a long break between courses, and still ran the second on ('shorter') at what seemd lik a much slower pace. I'm guessing that the fact that my per-k speed was faster on this course than the other is more indicative of the route veering relatively less off the straight line than it is to actually running faster.
