Orienteer 2:15:00 [3]

Another blow up. At one point I might have quit but I wasn't sure where I was enough to get back! I guess that was a good thing because I did finish, last but in one piece. It was a bit harder than I expected and I missed some nice trail routes, making it even more too challenging for me. And lost my glasses half way through, but since I learned that Spike navigated Moreau without compass and barely seeing, I am not sure there's any valid excuse other than that I need more training and should have looked for the route choices on the long. That much I know!

Orienteer 1:01:00 [3] 4.5 mi (13:33 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 road

Great day orienteering if you just forget about one huge mistake and a few little ones. I had large error at 3 to 4 where I should have been running 2 to 3. Cost me a lot of time cause its not easy to relocate at Moreau!
Rest of the controls were reasonable, some super fun ones, a few where I was surprised and relieved to find controls where I was looking. I placed well out of any medals- but I think this may be one of my favorite areas so it only just dented my mood for a bit. Of course checking splits might dent it some more but I hope not.
I need to train harder at orienteering if I want to be competitive. Will have to decide how committed I am to that. Or how I would even do it. Or what my goals even are.
Robins orange course was hardest orange I have ever seen. She got one control, #3, and then took the safety bearing after about 2 hours. None of the Forange made it in, I think. I was happy I explained safety bearing to her this morning!

Run 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 road

Missed the sprint. Airline delays. My flight was very late but robins/Ty's was almost two hours later. So I drove over to nature preserve N of Albany along the Erie Canal -mostly on trail but a bit off; jogged when I could. Then picked them up
Still really fun day. Great to be on a mini vacation and can't wait to run at lake Moreau again.

Run (river road) 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 road

poor sleep, maybe from seeing "Boy in the Striped Pajamas" just before bedtime; a thoroughly depressing story.
Very nice morning, with a treat of seeing a fox and kit between road and river.

Terraining (Backwoods) 20:00 [3] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 268

Half my trail is better than ever since the deer seem to have adopted several sections..I cleared out branches two years ago. Other half is a disaster with many downed trees due to late winter storms, heavy snow, loose wet soil. I will have to reroute I guess. Robin and Ty joined me. Not much orienteering training the last months but running through the white woods sections along the stream and bluffs is getting me happy for the weekend. Woooheeeee
