Note

Robin is still in stl, and Ty got sick this evening on the kitchen floor... and I don't feel so well either- it could be that I'm just not used to cleaning up someone else's vomit anymore. I feel bad for Ty but glad for me, maybe my recent malaise about orienteering is just the flu.

Orienteer race (Pig Middle) 44:00 [3] 3.3 mi (13:20 / mi)
shoes: Asics Speedstar 6

Started off the day a lot tired; we went to see a comic in Indianapolis on Sat, got home late and I just could not sleep. Must have been the (one) beer and general insomnia. And maybe because it was the third day I just didn't feel the enthusiasm.
I took off carefully but feeling alright, and did okay for most of the course but just never really felt like running. Now that I reflect, that's not entirely correct. There were some very fun segments; particularly on the downhills and trails.

At one downhill, i tripped before a dry creek and smacked my face (turned sideways luckily!) on the riverbed, pebbles. Shook me up.
Made some errors, nothing tragic but on this course I knew it wasn't going to be good enough. And by the end, just wanted to be done and ended up somewhat following someone (not really intentionally, it just happened) and of course was pulled way off. Lazy stupid stuff, so I deserved the crappy time I ended up with.
On the other hand, I realized that my bad times are a LOT better than they used to be.....(for now that is... I reserve the right to rescind that self-congratulation).

What did I LIKE about the day? Well most everything. Orienteering was super, just wish I was more competitive. The woods were extremely nice, course was good, people were fun as always-old and new friends, clubs did everything perfect and had an Ace event (Robin commented on that to me too).

Orienteer race (Pig Long) 1:47:55 [3] 7.0 km (15:25 / km) +450m 11:40 / km
shoes: Asics Speedstar 6

I'll update the actual run later; as I recall I made minimal errors but felt tired especially up the long hills.
My dumbest mistake (well known, I think) was putting a Cliff bar in the same pocket as my parents' car key. Sure enough, lost the key somewhere up a big hill, and had to call AAA who called a locksmith. They were very nice - came out to Yellowwwwwood, made a key on the spot. It cost about $300 Gasp. But I was so happy there was a solution!

Thanks to all the people who lent phones (Bill L, Soupbone, a few others I think) and all the offers of "let me know what I can do to help"... previous people plus Bill Pullman and probably others. At least I didn't feel stranded!
And strangely, it didn't really bother me since I'm accustomed to dealing with myself. So I enjoyed the sunshine and the waiting time in a great environment.
Best offer of help was from Oslug...
"can I do anything to help?" - No, but thanks so much
"how about some chocolate".... Uh , YEAH.. That was sweet.

Robin had a horrible run on Orange; thought she did well but then somehow found out she MPd. She denied it (don't we all!) but it turns out she ran from 6 direct to 11, and then maybe from 13-16. hahahahaha
but, the best thing is that NO ONE in her class beat her in the long! They ALL MP, or dnf, or dns or something. She ended up winning Gold in F-Orange for the weekend.

Run warm up/down 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Speedstar 6

warm up to the start a couple of times,
Warm down running back and forth to the main road, trying to make sure I didn't miss the locksmith van

Orienteer race 25:25 [3] 2.7 km (9:25 / km)
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas-L

Took this a bit cautious, since i seem to MP on sprints.
Also was looking out for uncrossable trick areas and misinterpreted some areas as having joined lines when there were actually small through ways so not optimal routes; then spent more time than necessary staring at black lines to see what was what. But no tricks on this course. Should have just been fast fast fast. Of course, that might have introduced some other problems so maybe safe and steady and easy was okay for today. Checked all codes which was my goal. Fun course, great weather.
