Orienteer race 1:06:00 [3] 5.4 mi (12:13 / mi)
shoes: Asics Speedstar 6

You know that feeling you have that you're screwing up and everyone is watching? I had that between two and three when I mistook the finish circle for control number three and searched all over the finish area. I had people asking afterwards what the hell was going on and even had people say
"I heard about that". so yeah I was pretty bad.
I ended up making a few other big mistakes- less public and ended up nine minutes behind Julia and in fourth place.
That's a lot of time to make up on a two day event but in theory, this should be my type of terrain. I think I need to run faster and smarter.

Run (Afton village) 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 268

Jogged the bloodhound back to his home in Afton marina. He is old and doesn't like cars. What a sniffy dog.

Orienteer (Shawnee mission model) 35:00 [3] 2.4 km (14:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 268

Such a crowd! Ran it backwards which gave me the fun of running into steady stream of O friends.

XC Ski (Lake Elmo) 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Skate ski

Happy ski day at Lake Elmo w Sly, great snow and felt relaxed.
10 PM

Run (Lake elmo) 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 268

Another loose brain moment. I was cleaning my car for KC trip and realized I left my skis at Lake Elmo. Drive back, gates locked. Slipped between surveillance cams and took a really nice jog to the ski shelter. Skis and poles were right where I left them.

Orienteer 45:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 268

Crap. Just repurposed some willow river maps and set old Mnoc yellow course for Ty and Max. Gave them great instructions on keeping off ski trails, orienting map North, not running on very icy parking lot and then gave five beeps and sent Max off. He ran in direction of #2 and I yelled "are you sure?!" And he said "yep". I thought I'd let him figure it out, waited six minutes and was giving Ty instructions when I realized.......
I FORGOT to tell Max to follow the drawn in course, not the RED printed course! I ran towards first red control (from Ty's map and I don't think they were the same) but didn't see him. Sent Ty off and am just waiting now to see if Max will give up or if he figured it out or will he be lost? Smart kid, so I think he will be fine but dumb me.

Note

And since I'm waiting- here's the weekend update from the B&B. we had a group of six adults scheduled for the weekend. Robin forgot to ask details on their plans. There were seven cars at the house at one point so we sent the kids on a quick surveillance run. They claimed there were lots of empty bottles, at least eleven people, men and women probably 25-35, there was a massage train (which I never even heard of). Strangest of all, there were Justin Bieber posters on the wall, and folks singing "we are the Biebers" (tune of we are the champions). Well, Robin and I decided we better pay them a visit to discourage any worse behavior. No one seemed very drunk and they were washing dishes but there was quite a crowd. We were assured that only six would be staying the night. Hmmm. Still disturbing.
But today by noon, it was all clean and tidy. They did drink the case of beer that we bought for Soupbone and Wik, and a bottle of wine, and left a Bieber postcard taped up in the bathroom and a Bieber puzzle in the living room. We are going to add some new house rules to the bed and breakfast.
