trail run warm up/down 5:00 [1]

We got stuck in traffic while the 93N ramp was closed, then had some trouble finding the right parking lot by Houghton's Pond, stopped early where it was last year. So a bit tight on time before the masstart but Ian handed us very useful driving directions and a little map with how to get to the start.

It's been a month since I had the acupuncture and started running again. I clearly wasn't physically ready for a race like this yet, had to walk a lot, tough to accept that my legs wouldn't go faster. And I wasn't focused enough for the orienteering either. Tape didn't help, kept twisting my left foot and that was a bit distracting.

Mistakes on all controls except for 1 and 11 on Blue Hills East, can't blame it all on the map..

1 - where Jeff S stood with the camera kind of gave away wich direction we were going, following the crowd
2 - together with a group of people out from 1, Ernst, JJ & co, we ran through the light green, crossed the trail, went up along the green, came up and saw the cliffs.. then for some reason I thought we were by the green by 2, so I turned around and took some guy with me, realized after a while and made it to 2
3 - still some people around, veered right to a hill where some were standing, didn't notice the marsh, punched 3 right after Presto
4 - and hey ho! parallel error, took the wrong trail + had some trouble in the ring
5 - started looking too far left, out to the trail and in
6 - more random-oing: oops got to the yellow trail, ok just up a little and in, nope, not here.. oh, over there! and there is JJ again
7 - ran around the hill until I checked the description, control on top
8 - trail, cut through along the stream, trail, lost trail, aimed for the road, climbed up the slanted stonewall, ran along the road, big trail.. decided to climb up the hill at the trail junction, next time I looked at the map there is no trail junction! Oh the print rubs off! Wish I took a mapcase. Anyway over the hill and down along the cliffs/marsh, now together with Phil, Meg and the guy that I tricked going to 2. Didn't see the dark green to the left, ended up in the reentrant to the left of the control.
9 - trail run, up the hill, I was ahead of the others, must have crossed the trail without noticing and so was wandering here for a while, saw people coming out of the control and back-tracked in to it
10 - trail, cut over the hill using the stonewalls as reference, then must have passed right by the control, got to the trail, went in again, sigh!
11 - yes!
12, 13, 14 - no problem, just getting tired
15 - longish trail route, had to walk quite a lot of this
16, 17, 18 - some problem in the ring
19 - ok
20 - hesitant, looked behind a few boulders before I found the right one

passing by the finish - Mike handed me water and I stopped to talk to him for a while, considered stopping here and just doing the Short Traverse.. but what's another 2km!?

21 - up, up, up the hill, walking together with Bob Lux
22 - took trail route to the right, but failed to attack by compass from the trail junction, went a bit passed the control and had to turn around
23 - ok, except I was going in slow motion by now
24 - maybe I climbed a bit more than I should have done on this but thought I got it pretty good
25 - nice leg! beautiful terrain!
26, finish - and then just squeezed the last energy out of me, slowly jogging..

trail run 32:31 [2] 5.38 km (6:03 / km) +133m 5:23 / km

A jog at West Rock. Using the elastic ankle-thingy did not stop me from stepping wrong on the un-even ground and irritating the outside of the left foot.
The two camps are still out there, saw a man sitting in a camping chair outside one of the tents.

trail run 51:46 [2] 9.72 km (5:20 / km) +138m 4:58 / km

Early morning run. Again had to work hard to keep my legs moving. Twisted the outside of my left foot slightly, did the same thing last week at Racebrook tract & Huntington but it had healed since then.

It was beautiful watching the sunrise coming around the lake AND I SAW A WHITE SQUIRREL on my way back!!

run warm up/down (night) 15:38 [2] 3.33 km (4:42 / km) +22m 4:33 / km

Dark and rainy. Didn't feel like going into the woods by myself. Went over to the Yale track.

run intervals 7:30 intensity: (2:30 @1) + (5:00 @4) 1.82 km (4:08 / km) +1m 4:07 / km

5 x 1min with 30s rest

Wow. Honestly didn't think it was gonna be too hard to get back up to speed after some time off from running. But I was struggling just doing some pick-ups. Also felt something in my left hamstring after the first interval.

Note

Today the nominees for Jerringpriset were announced AND Helena Jansson is one of them! =) Vote for her! She is also nominated in SVT sports awards: best female athlete category!
She had an amazing year! I read in her blog that for the first time ever she gave herself a rest-month, she only trained one hour a day in October(!)

Tove Alexandersson is also nominated, in the rookie category!

GREAT for Swedish orienteering!

Needed this!

zumba 1:00:00 [3]

Packed class, bad air. Saw a girl wearing a "Tjejmilen" shirt and was gonna ask if she was Swedish but she left before class was over.
