Back roads out by the Montague Book Mill. Made it up the hill better than expected. A workout that was just what I wanted and Phil may well be laughing at. :-)

North along the river and back. 26F, light breeze from the south, road was mostly bare pavement. Perfectly pleasant, except the legs didn't have much zip when I turned to head back and had just a little bit of wind in my face. But clothing was about right, full winter complement of 25 items: 4 socks, 2 shoes, 2 booties, shorts, 2 tights, 2 shirts, jacket, 4 gloves, 2 balaclavas (one of which could cover mouth/nose, but I don't like breathing through them), helmet, chest strap, Garmin, watch, glasses. I suppose I could have added a buff around the neck, but it didn't seem necessary.

Note

A good time to see Horned Larks. They usually are feeding in fields, but with the snow they often search for food along back roads. The guy seemed not at all bothered by my presence.

A short outing from the start of Falls Road to avoid the traffic on 47. Just right.

=======

Made an appointment today to have surgery on my left eye, to remove a wrinkled membrane on my retina. Both eyes have the problem, but the rule is to do the worst eye first. Scheduled for mid-January. Vision in the eye (with glasses) is only 20-60, so I'm mostly using my right eye (which itself is only 20-40). I suppose that whether the right eye ever gets done depends on how the left one turns out. We shall see.

Note

About a foot of snow. Shoveled the deck and some steps. The farmer down the street takes care of the driveway. Would be happy without the snow, but it's winter and New England. It will disappear at some point.

Hemenway Road (dirt). The goal was to keep from working too hard. Initially I thought I'd keep the heart rate to 140 at the most, but I breezed through that so easily that I quickly revised, keep it to 150. Managed that just about.

Actually useful. Trying to run will as little effort as possible, particularly when it tilted up a little. End result was getting back to the car feeling a good bit less tired.

Still could stand to go slower.

Route. (I put the quick entry in so Gail would see I was done, expecting to delete it when I put in the Forerunner info. But then there was a comment from JJ, and that would get deleted too.)

First bit of the Mt. Toby jeep road to the summit. Pleasantly surprised there was no snow/ice, as it's a good place to go when there's a NW wind, well sheltered.

Test to see if my shin issue from Pound Ridge was still a problem. Been trying to be patient. Seemed OK. Would have liked to go to Blue Mt before the snow comes, but didn't seem to make sense.
