road running 39:27 [3] 4.43 mi (8:54 / mi) +192ft 8:33 / mi
weight:133.5lbs shoes: brooks #2 lighter

Usual loop around the end of Sachem Head. Legs were a little sluggish to start but got better. Rest of body had a bunch of sore places from yesterday, but nothing serious. So that's pretty good. Just not much time today.

WCOC local meet at Huntington, hosted by the DeWitts. Perfect day, upper 50s, sunny. Huntington is a fine place, no briers, no raging rivers, no need for bogus control sites, wonderful for orienteering. And a fine course today by Rick. Such a pleasure.

A decent warm-up before I started.

Red course, 6.2 as the crow flies. Decent run. Small mistakes at 4, 10, 15 and 16, but no big deal. Ran reasonable well, though the pace fell off in the 4th mile, partly due to tougher terrain, partly due to laziness. Best time was about 49, so not too bad. First time orienteering in quite some time. And my eyesight is getting worse and worse.

About 5 falls. O' remains a dangerous sport.

And then, because it's good training to run when depleted, a little extra on the main trails. Legs were tired, pace was slow, but managed to run up the hills. Also managed one face plant.... :-(

orienteering 25:25 [2] 2.03 mi (12:31 / mi) +350ft 10:46 / mi
shoes: pegasus #3

And finally, because it seemed the right thing to do, out to pick up 5 controls, all I figured I could manage. Pace was getting slower, but still running a good bit.

And then off for something to eat and especially drink (had had nothing of either since breakfast and was getting a little depleted), pleasant company with Phil, catching up on things.

And a good day of training.

weight:134lbs shoes: Brooks something-or-others

Good run northwest of town, picked up the pace a little in the second half coming back into town into the wind and got the heart going a little. And legs felt like they'd done some work.

Slowly making progress in arrangements for the next month or two -- got the entry in and a place to stay for West Point, ditto for DVOA a couple of weeks later, entered the Billygoat, room and other arrangements for my OCS reunion the next week in DC, and room and entry for the Burlington marathon the week after that. Still one hole -- 10-mila arrangements.

And then there is the summer to figure out. But progress. :-)

And a few more miles. Still some ice around, but it won't be for much longer.

And less than 2 weeks to the 15th.... :-)

Back on Greenfield ridge for the first time all winter, old stomping ground, and doing a familiar loop. Trails were in fine shape, maybe 5% ice and 5-10% mud, the rest high and dry.

Beautiful day, low 50s and sun. Put out a good effort from Mountain Road to the end (13:40) to make sure I was under an hour. Something around 55 would be a good time. But my legs had a little more energy than yesterday so that was nice.

TAL again, a show from some months ago about "Good Guys," pretty good.

rhr:52 weight:133.5lbs shoes: pegasus #3

Time to get off the roads, at least sometimes. Over to the Montague plain for a mixture of ice, slush, slop, frost pockets, some nice hard-packed sand, and even a little nice woods.

Tired as could be, felt like I had done no training at all, though probably still tired from Sunday. Chugged around best as I could, which wasn't much.

Beautiful day, sunny, 49F, almost warm enough for Glen to run outside (apparently there is a rule that retired folks don't train outside when it's under 50). And supposed to be like this all week. The ice is on its way out. :-)
