Oceania Day 7 - Smedley
10:24 AM. Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Burned 697 calories.
Course: M21E 8.5 km 370 m
What a tough day, hey? On a scale of 1-10 for epicness, this scores an 11 for me. Not because of the distance, but because of the terrain. I don't think i've battled anything quite like it before. Wit the steep climbs and descents into the gorges and the running through creeks, it was something else. Navigation was pretty good, but routechoice let me down on a few legs. Despite the long time, i really enjoyed this race.

Oceania Day 6 (Relay) - Glenlean
12:02 PM. Wairarapa, New Zealand. Burned 624 calories.
Course: M21E 7.7 km
Ran 3rd in a team with Nieuwy and Hallett. It was a fun and fast course. I certainly didn't have the legs for the hills, but really enjoyed the scenery and the rocks. The hills were out of proportion, what looked like they should be huge on the ground were only a few contours high on the map. I thionk this was to do with the rocks...

Really psyched myself out with this one. Didn't enjoy it from the start, even though this bit of the forest was the nicest we have run in so far. No real remarks on the navigation until 9. I was going to abandon my course after 10 anyway, but since i couldn't find 9, i thought i should abandon now. Not sure what went wrong with 9, but i lost contact with the map near the edge of the circle. I never found it, but didn't put too much effort into trying either. Left via 10 and walked back home. Disappointed.

Oceania Day 4 - Government House
12:51 PM. Wellington, New Zealand. Burned 409 calories.
Course: M21E 3.6 km 134 m
This was the longest sprint i have done (time wise). There were steep hills and tricky route-choices. I made just about all the wrong route choices and made some critical errors too. Most notably was the long route choice from 6 to 7 where i chose the steep climby leg.... The other was 13 to 14 when i completey missed the path out of Govermnet House and back into the school. Still it was a great fun race. I always feel sorry for those who start behind me, i never get to give them and lead into controls.

Oceania Day 3 - Manga Pirau
2:30 PM. Waikawa Beach, New Zealand. Burned 486 calories.
Course: M21E 5.1 km 135 m
This was always going to be a realy fun race. I love dunes. I started out slow and really got into the navigation. Towards # 8 i was starting to get cocky and was brutally pulled back into line by a lovely parallel error. I ended up thinking i was one clearing south of where i actually was. This was followed up by another error on 10 and then i was settle back down and had a clean couple of controls. Then #14 happened. I went out to the beach thinking i would be able to find a decent attack point to lead me back into the dunes and then the control. No. No there was no attack point and decided to revisit 5 before tackling 14. After that epic blowout i mananged a pretty smooth end to the course. Not sure how i pulled that off...
