Oceania Festival Day 5, Ngatawhai, M45A. 13th.

A hot day and a tough steep area. I took it steady and was going reasonably well but took a poor route on the long leg, and also fell over a crag while doing it, which cost me 4 minutes. Luckily nothing broken, though I ripped the skin off a couple of fingers while trying in vain to stop myself slipping down the increasing steep rocky bank at the top of the crag.

The end of the course felt more like survival than racing - I was just pleased to finish, and not surprised that I was some way down the results

Oceania Festival Day 4, Middle Earth (Wellington College), M45A. 5th.

A really varied Sprint area, starting on steep wooded hillside, and finishing in the complex Wellington College grounds. I should have been 90-120 seconds faster which would have got me 2nd place, but made a couple of small errors due to lack of concentration. I couldn't have done Al's time of just over 14 mins.

Oceania Festival Day 3, Manga Pirau, M45A. 1st.

Another sand dunes area, but this time with a reasonable amount of the course in open dunes rather than forest. I got lucky! Rob Jessop came and introduced himself to me at the start (aparently we'd run against each other years ago at an OK Nuts Trophy race). Rob then started 2 minutes ahead of me, but blew the first control, so just as I was approaching it he was arriving from the opposite direction. He then sprinted off towards number 2, and I did my best to hang on to him. I managed to hang on, but only just - he was doing the navigation, and I was map reading only enough to know roughly where we were if it all went wrong.

On a leg through some crappy bushy stuff he took a different route and I got ahead, but I then hesitated and he came by again. He did finally break away at the end, to finish 20 seconds before me. Had I not got a tow, Rob would have won by a deecent margin.

Oceania Festival Day 2, Osgiliath, M45A. 9th.

Another sand dunes area, and another good run apart from one control, which was really bad. This time I binned 7 minutes on the penultimate (#22), and dropped from 5th to 9th.

Oceania Festival Day 1, Fusilier, M45A. 7th.

A nice sand-dunes area, with some low vis stuff near the coast. I was leading after 2 controls but managed to bin 4 minutes at #3, when I had spotted it would be difficult.
