Orienteering race 29:55 [5] 5.8 km (5:09 / km)

British Middle Champs, Strensall Common. Feeling a bit tired after yesterday's sprints, but managed to get most of the stiffness gone after a warm-up. Clearly the area was going to have indistinct vegetation, and no real contour shapes, so it was tricky. Hit 1 ok and was reasonably careful approaching 2 but as I went into the circle it just didn't seem to make sense. Found the control quite a bit further left than I expected, after losing 20-30 secs. Next few were easier and got some good speed going, slowing down just enough to find controls sometimes tucked down. Probably lost a few seconds approaching 7, running in the marsh rather than out of it. Caught JonX coming back towards me at 12, then we ran 13 and 14 together. Slight hesitation at 15 as I thought I was looking for a depression in a form line re-entrant, but in fact it was a spur. Tried to push hard through the last control-pick controls, but at the same time staying in control to avoid doing anything silly. Flew down the run-in, pleased to get under 30, and started my split watch to count down the 4 minutes till Charlie should arrive.

He turned up after only 3 and a half minutes, to take the win - well done! Same story as last weekend probably - we both went fast, but I threw away a few more seconds with slight errors than he did.

Orienteering race 14:36 [3] 3.0 km (4:52 / km) +30m 4:38 / km

British Sprints - Heat 2C. Objective was to run cleanly but not too fast, in order to save effort for the final. A few hesitations early on, especially when I came across tapes on the ground, but generally ok. 2nd place, comfortably into the A final.

Orienteering race 12:46 [5] 2.9 km (4:24 / km) +30m 4:11 / km

British Sprints - Final. Went out fast and had Mark C (1 minute man) in sight by control 6. Overtook him at 13, but then he got me back at 14 by taking a slightly better route. Pushed hard from the spectator control 18 to overtake him again, and finished pretty happy with my run. A win by 40 seconds from John Duckworth and a minute ahead of the womens elite, but only 3 seconds ahead of Quentin on M50.
