Orienteering race 14:36 [3] 3.0 km (4:52 / km) +30m 4:38 / km

British Sprints - Heat 2C. Objective was to run cleanly but not too fast, in order to save effort for the final. A few hesitations early on, especially when I came across tapes on the ground, but generally ok. 2nd place, comfortably into the A final.

Orienteering race 12:46 [5] 2.9 km (4:24 / km) +30m 4:11 / km

British Sprints - Final. Went out fast and had Mark C (1 minute man) in sight by control 6. Overtook him at 13, but then he got me back at 14 by taking a slightly better route. Pushed hard from the spectator control 18 to overtake him again, and finished pretty happy with my run. A win by 40 seconds from John Duckworth and a minute ahead of the womens elite, but only 3 seconds ahead of Quentin on M50.

Orienteering race 43:36 [5] 8.6 km (5:04 / km) +100m 4:47 / km

YHOA champs at Pillar Woods. I was tempted to pick a shorter course and treat it as a middle race (practice for British Middle next weekend), but decided instead to go with the age group course (Short Brown) which was only likely to be about 45 mins anyway. Went out hard and was spiking the controls, but then had a slight wobble at 5 and lost maybe 30 seconds, then again at 7. Slowed a bit (to normal speed) and tried to be clean around the rest of the course. Slight miss at 18, not being sure enough that I had aimed off left towards 11. Spotted a flag and guessed it was my number 11, but went to check it anyway just in case it was 18. It was 11, and I'd lost another 30 seconds.

Kept pushing hard to the finish, but it wasn't good enough to beat Charlie who finished about 50 seconds quicker than me.
