Midland Champs, Sherwood Forest, M45L.

Sherwood was as flat and fast as normal, and the brambles weren't too bad. Reasonable run, but somehow managed to bin 3 minutes at control #13 which was a pit, where the flag had been put down in the pit. According to my GPS I was within 10m of it (possibly closer) on first approach, and then again on at least two further occasions, before I eventually spotted it. Really annoying, as 3 mins cost me the the class win, and would have had me much closer to Tim's 60 minutes.

Hugsett Wood night training.

Great practice for Tankersley BNC. Got completely lost a couple of times, but managed to relocate quickly, and was never far from being in the right place. Just need to spot the trickiest controls and slow down a bit more for them.

Edinburgh Chasing Sprint - Prologue, Whinny Hill

Somewhat tired after yesterday's city race, and I knew this would be a steep and potentially tough course on which errors could be costly, so the tactic was just to have a steady but clean run, and save energy for head-to-head racing in the chase. Went to plan, and I was within 20 seconds of the leader in 2nd place anyway.

Edinburgh Chasing Sprint - Chase.

Well it was fun, with lots of head-to-head racing, lots of changes in the lead (Linnea, Jase, Robin and me), and some quite tricky controls. I had assumed that no butterflies meant it was just a straight race with everyone on the same course, so was using "navigation" to try to take and extend a lead, but using "following" when I just needed to catch up.

Controls 9 and 10 were tricky, so we were all in there at the same time, and I managed to work out where #10 was first, so got away heading into 11 and 12. At 12 Linnea caught me, and then overtook me on the way into the Dynamic Earth complex for 13. Stupidly I decided I was racing her (didn't want womens elite beating us old men!), so I then followed her through 13, 14 and towards 15. However, she went to the wrong 15, I saw the code was wrong and checked my map and descriptions, and then had to correct myself having lost about a minute. In that time Jase had gone through (on a different gaffle!?), and took the win - well done.

I should have read the map and descriptions, but got carried away with the "chase". Lesson learnt!
