British Night Champs, Tankersley, M45L.

Just one problem after another. Had to hurry to start after setting up computers, so not really focussed. Lost 3 minutes on #1. Started to get the navigation right but then a couple more wobbles, and I started playing it really safe in the tricky bits (probably too safe). Poor route on the long leg.

Then came to control #17 which had a flag but no SI box. As the final details had warned of other controls being out in the forest ready for Sunday, I thought I may be at the wrong one. Looked for a tape, found it, and saw the code wasn't 48 (it was 132 or something), so decided I'd better have another look for my control. Relocated carefully, found the control again, and it was the same one. Carried on, not really knowing whether I'd be DQd or not.

Spot on 60 minutes at the road crossing my light went out, even though it was fully charged and should have lasted 75, so I had to run the last 8 controls using a pen-light on fairly low battery power. Could read the map and see where my feet were going, but couldn't see anything else more than 5 yards away. Lost several more minutes at several more controls.

Anyway, finally made it to the pub by 10pm for a nice meal.
