Oceania Festival Day 7, The Slump, M45A. DNF.
This race was squeezed in between the World Cup Prologue and the World Cup Chasing Start races on the same area, so had to be over quickly. The organisers chose to make it a mass start, without gaffling, with all classes on the same course starting at once.
On our course the M18s were the ones who went out fastest, and I went with them, ahead of Charlie, Bill, Eddie Wymer and others on M45. While that was great fun to start with (and I was 2nd on the course for some of the early controls) the pace took its toll, and I completely died! So much so that I could barely orientate the map, remember which control I had last been to, or work out where I was. It was ridiculously hot, the sun was strong, and I didn't need to finish in order to get an overall result (six scores out of seven), so retiring seemed like the best option.
Charlie won M45, and in doing so took 3rd overall in the Oceania competition, pushing me down to 4th. I was pleased with a top 5.
