Note
(rest day)

Travel day with 2 nocturnal phases.
Despite the mediocre O on my part- an otherwise great series of courses - just can't expect too much with a non-time zone acclimated older body!- had a meaningful trip family wise.
Emotionally tough seeing my Mum in an advanced stage of Dementia. As part catharsis and part Ode/Eulogy I wrote a poem/song on the flight home called "Mountain memories".

Orienteering race 36:14 [3] *** 3.7 km (9:48 / km) +120m 8:26 / km
spiked:12/14c

Better run, took it more cautiously and the map made sense. Still didn't focus enough (work related distraction) and copped 6 mins of stupid errors.

Note

And hopped on a midnight red-eye to SYD.

Orienteering 1:33:00 [3] *** 7.5 km (12:24 / km) +240m 10:41 / km
spiked:6/15c

Pretty bad! Could not read the map- at 1:10000 too many black rock agglomerations that I couldn't figure out the detail of ( need a magnifier now for sure) and kept transposing the white (sparsely wooded bush) with the yellow. Things went wrong at control 3 with 13 mins lost and went from bad to worse. Bailed after missing 7 - 3 times - and feeling dehydrated in the 70+F sunny coniditions, wisely Called it a day and headed in, with a bit of control finding practice on the way.

Orienteering 21:49 [3] ***** 3.1 km (7:02 / km) +50m 6:31 / km
spiked:23/25c

Ouch - didn’t start well with a 2 min 54 sec split on a 35 sec first control! Got befuddled at the start triangle and headed off in the wrong direction- 300m later I was where I needed to be. After that took it cautiously with a 15sec miss on the second control - complex levels of ramps and steps. Tricky but enjoyable course. SL = 2.3 km.
Finished 6th on the day in M65A, however should have seen a low 19 min run which would have put me in the top three. Can’t blame jet lag on this one.

Note

Refueled with a scrumptious Arvo tea in Perth with my sister.

Orienteering 24:47 [3] *** 3.4 km (7:17 / km)
spiked:20/22c slept:8.0 weight:62.7kg

Leg 2 of the open relay. Took it steady, but found it a bit of a slog from about the 2/3 point. A couple of route choice bobbles and a misread on 17 (30secs). Despite that pulled us up 3 places. SL = 3.0 km
Ran with Tony and Duncan - finishing 10/44.

Note

Fun, well run event with interesting courses and a neat arena set up. Good job to the organizers!

Walking 50:00 [1] 4.5 km (11:07 / km)
(rest day)

Caught some solar rays.
Visited my Mum, who is being well cared for in the home, but has no intelligle speech in either English or German.
Visited Dad’s grave and placed some silk flowers.
Caught some more sun.
