Orienteering race 58:36 intensity: (20:00 @3) + (30:00 @4) + (8:36 @5) **** 5.32 km (11:01 / km) +170m 9:30 / km
spiked:11/14c

Green course at Prospect hill. Interesting course with some route choice and nice day but legs just couldn't handle the climb- suspect more than advertised- and felt I really slowed up in last 1/3. No major errors in first part, electing for trail and contouring options as much as possible. Slog up to 8 was tough. Race kinda fell apart for 10-12 (3-4 mins lost in this sector).
Area around 10 is really funky mapping and cliff was in a well defined reentrant- not so on map- lost time. Cliff on 11 was much higher than mapped- time lost. For #12 description of on top of cliff threw me- so missed this one as well. Got the last couple OK. All told average run (B) and 5 mins lost (Ian F 51 ish).
Garmin wouldn't turn on today so have no trace of route or climb.

Track intervals 7:44 intensity: (1:14 @3) + (5:00 @4) + (1:30 @5) 2.4 km (3:13 / km)

MIT track- humid and very blustery right along back straight (worth a couple of secs at least). No real plan other than to do some 4's and 2's before I take bl's advice and switch to longer "less-risk-of-injury" (LROI) intervals! recovery walk/jog of 200 between the 4's and 100 between the 2's. Ala Falstaff (Henry IVp1), discretion overcame valour ie no heroics today :-)

Running (long trail) 1:10:29 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (40:00 @3) + (15:29 @4) 13.5 km (5:13 / km) +99m 5:02 / km

Out early fueled by an espresso and 2 slices toast for a GB GT. Very pleasant temp of 56 deg. Last time I ran this loop (minus 650m) was 6/20 (1:11:02 for 12.8k) and it was 80 degs and humid. Fall is here!
Steady pace, took me a while to warm up, afterwards managed neg splits (35:57 and 34:33). Legs a bit tired at end and kept cadence high to ward off fatigue.

Note

Aussie commemorative weekend chez nous- watched the film version of Jill Ker Conway's memoir, "The Road From Coorain" - poignant reminder of life in the outback, Aussie stoicism and the inevitable intellectual diaspora.
