Event (NOY 4?) 1:03:34 [3]
shoes: new black O

Wet at home for the past few days so was pleased to have warm and very pleasant conditions at decapitated Poppethead. With DL setting we were in for a good event.
With bringing Sanni I thought it not wise to do the Hard Medium so stuck to the Hard Short. Picked up map... and yes we can tell who set this!
S-1Track to junction then bearing
1-2Minor track network to major track, then bearing from junction. Quite pleased with choice of AP and while i was off the w/c by 1 all good - I knew where I was. Oh yes that's an attackpoint!
2-3basically bearing but came out spot on at track junction, continued on bearing
3-4 N to track, NE along track to pick up minor. I got a little bit of a fright here when Andrew H popped out of the bush - he is quiet on his feet. NW at junction until a little past w/c then bearing. Spot on! Be careful!!!
4-5 very short leg and did it really well. LH tells me it is the most technical leg of the course - nailed it.
5-6 bearing - tried to use vegetation which was going fairly well and convinced myself I'd picked up the fragment of track but while i know I crossed the area around the intermittent w/c didn't ever really think I'd found it. Pushed through too much of the paperbark stuff and knew it wasn't right but popped out eventually to see tape on wire fence so realised i'd strayed a bit and had passed by control. Established exactly where I was re-entered the fray and found control using veg. A bit disappointed but pressing on.
6-7 long leg bounced off a couple of minor tracks, crossed w/c and came out exactly where I wanted to - track junction, bearing SE and control.
7-8 bearing
8-F tried to find a crossing point to linear thick green but when I actually neared it I either found the best spot or it wasn't as bad as I'd imagined. Did a little too much N here rather than NE but all good.
Very happy with run - yes a bit of running but much more fast walking. Felt good to be out.
Sanni MP - naughty - didn't take descriptions! but she enjoyed the area.
rockman did a minor course! and did lots of catching up with people.

Park Run (Newy - rebuild) 46:19 [3] 5.0 km (9:16 / km)
shoes: grey/white

Still not totally 100% so opted for all walk and not hard pace. Sooo very cold and windy but managed to get the number and variety of layers correct. Blustery wind which resulted in a tailwind but then an unpleasant headwind. Wore my beanie - and not with any regret.
S-1 9:22 35 sec slower
1-2 9:00 31 sec slower
2-3 9:00 only 14 sec slower - maybe that was where the tail wind had its biggest effect.
3-4 9:03 38 sec slower
4-5 9:28 really slowed down and I'm linking this with someone coming and walking with me. He is a good runner so not the pace - it's just I lose concentration - plus i didn't run from last 500m marker.
Nice chat before with mapgirl and the final 1km with Jon S who went out for a warm down and found me to come back with.

Note

Forgot to mention in the haze of earlier this week that we got a council grant (but $-$ with ONSW) for 4 permanent courses. YAY for rockman's hard work!!!

walking (area checking) 1:35:00 [3]
shoes: grey/white

Shared driving with rockman for his big day out. So while he was playing with his geology playmates I entertained myself by checking out Nowlan park North as a potential map area - which rockman had already deemed very good and i agree. Such good (not intricate or spectacular) spur gully detail. It is across the road from the more park like area we've already used in 2 promo events. Keen to get it mapped! Spent about 65 minutes on this part then crossed road, loo break and then a walk in the park side where I'd not been before. Nice tract of land which is used but need orienteering and would be great for a permanent course. There i go again.

Went conservatively but needed to add weights at end of a couple of tracks.

gym replacement activity 1:00:00 [3]

Wanted to go to gym - not enough time to do it and some other chores so opted to stay home, save time and feel virtuous at the conclusion.

walking (WOD course) 43:00 [2]
shoes: grey/white

Beaut day and I wanted to do something. So options - too soon to return to gym - talk a walk. Decided to walk the WOD KEP course in full sunshine. All very enjoyable, though 2 control sites i woldn't have chosen due to possible "activity" in the area.
Random experience for the week: returning to the "finish" I heard drumming. With few houses close enough to emit that volume I came across "Dave" with full drum set, headphones and phone just doing his thing! Sat for a while and enjoyed the experience. Quite a novelty for people passing through - jogger, skateboarder, 3 tourists from the sub continent, a nanna and child, 2 lunch time walkers and the 2 gardeners tending the flowers. I love my city!
