Walk 2 of the planned part of the holiday. Yesterday's rest was in evidence as I was toey to do something. Started to go into the so-called civilised part of the world to go to the Anish Kapoor exhibition but didn't get a ride on the shuttle bus so decided to go for a swim instead at Q Beach.
Then decamped to go to city - to Darling Harbour to see the Duck and then to Taronga Zoo to walk :Taronga - Bradleys Head - Georges Heights - Balmoral.
Walk around Darling Harbour was hot and busy (all the things we had avoided for the holiday so far). Saw people playing Street Soccer/Football on a pontoon in the harbour with a gigantic inflatable duck behind - pretty funny pics. Then ferry trip to Taronga and start of walk. By now warming up and glad I'd chosen a very coastal walk with views, though sometimes through some coastal scrub, but pretty much within 100m of water the whole way. Incredible access points to harbour and really enjoyed the views all along this walk. Pretty in parts and stunning in others with several places I thought would be fantastic to watch NYE fireworks (but probably along with 1.1m other people). A mix of bush, duckbaord, small amount of suburban street, park and beach. Then after a bit of climbing had a series of headlands with the view from Georges Heights as the best view of Sydney Harbour - 270 degrees from Manly to Harbour Bridge. Interesting Sydney Festival installation which I just had to sit down and listen to - legs were tired by then. But more climbing to follow, views worth it. Then down to Balmoral (interesting easement section near Penguin) and then by bus to Manly where we had pizza and gelati (for lunch/tea) and then caught the bus back to Q.
Another satisfying day.
