Bike 1:10:00 [3]

Replacement activity for our "planned" 5 hour test walk. Haven't ever cycled for more than 30 minutes so broke new ground. Did random to break up the boredom. Gym date with both juniors - nice. They ended up challenging each other as brothers do. Hard work mentally - would be much better in the real world - perhaps later this year?

gym class (Body Sculpt) 1:00:00 [5]

Feeling a bit dusty this morning - a long day yesterday accompanied by 2 poor nights' sleep, but breakfast was feeling big and not digesting (sounds like macey ?). But as always this class perks me up then kills me. Having had a different week exercise pattern (ie holidays) I was also a little short on fitness. Great class - pushed hard and while it was to focus on legs the core and upper weren't forgotten. Felt like a little left in the tank and held my own on the 2 runs - all in all good effort.

gym class (Body Pump) 1:05:00 [3]

Back to the usual routine now - holidays gone... for now.
Helped two newcomers to the class so as they were using me as a "model" I had to not slack off - bad choice. They were really good and lasted the whole class. Didn't seem to be out of form so that was good. Really enjoyed the chest track.
This afternoon's run will sort out the over indulgences of the past week.
Quad has funny weak feeling every now (has done for the past 2 weeks, but I actually haven't been resting either) and then so I suspect all is not right with the glute - still. Not happy about that.

stretching 20:00 [1]

Not sure how my glute will go this afternoon.

6 PM

street run (SSS - Warabrook) 44:11 [5] 5.56 km (7:57 / km)
ahr:134 max:154 rhr:60 shoes: adidas

Decided to ignore glute and see how far I could go before pain got too much - lasted all the way - very happy. Overcast and breezy, so good conditions. macey set a great course with clues clear, and seen to be achieveable. Planning was my best for a while, though not knowing how long I'd last I didn't have much of a plan after the first 9 controls in a tightish cluster to the south, so extended to take in a cluster to the NW and then wound way back. Thought I'd be late but picking up 5 points on the way in was always going to happen. BUT I was early so that was good. I don't think I could have changed route to get any more points, so Thursday breakfast exercise will not be happening tomorrow. Could taste my lunchtime coffee all the way around - perhaps I should have had it before 3pm though. It's not like I'm still on holidays or anything.
Thanks macey - really enjoyed it.

exploring 1:00:00 [1]

Walking around Q Station exploring areas we hadn't visited already. Getting pretty hot so a swim was in order. Water has been cool, but very pleasant.

exploring 3:00:00 [1] 10.0 km (18:00 / km)

Walk 2 of the planned part of the holiday. Yesterday's rest was in evidence as I was toey to do something. Started to go into the so-called civilised part of the world to go to the Anish Kapoor exhibition but didn't get a ride on the shuttle bus so decided to go for a swim instead at Q Beach.
Then decamped to go to city - to Darling Harbour to see the Duck and then to Taronga Zoo to walk :Taronga - Bradleys Head - Georges Heights - Balmoral.
Walk around Darling Harbour was hot and busy (all the things we had avoided for the holiday so far). Saw people playing Street Soccer/Football on a pontoon in the harbour with a gigantic inflatable duck behind - pretty funny pics. Then ferry trip to Taronga and start of walk. By now warming up and glad I'd chosen a very coastal walk with views, though sometimes through some coastal scrub, but pretty much within 100m of water the whole way. Incredible access points to harbour and really enjoyed the views all along this walk. Pretty in parts and stunning in others with several places I thought would be fantastic to watch NYE fireworks (but probably along with 1.1m other people). A mix of bush, duckbaord, small amount of suburban street, park and beach. Then after a bit of climbing had a series of headlands with the view from Georges Heights as the best view of Sydney Harbour - 270 degrees from Manly to Harbour Bridge. Interesting Sydney Festival installation which I just had to sit down and listen to - legs were tired by then. But more climbing to follow, views worth it. Then down to Balmoral (interesting easement section near Penguin) and then by bus to Manly where we had pizza and gelati (for lunch/tea) and then caught the bus back to Q.

Another satisfying day.

Note

Some nice little pieces of trivia come our way.

We found that the derivation of the word quarantine was from the French quarante = 40 as in the number of days it was expected that a person should be in seclusion to avoid transfer of illness.

rockman realised the significance of the number eventually as we were staying at Q Station for our celebration of our 40th wedding anniversary.

Nominative determinism strikes even in this form!

A quiet day shared, celebrating a wonderful partnership.
