Orienteering race 29:37 [5] 5.04 km (5:53 / km) +135m 5:11 / km
shoes: Inov-8 OROC 280 2016

AM/PM COC Middle at Hidden Lakes at 1:10000. Decent race after a shaky start. Didn't really know where I was after the start triangle and couldn't make sense of the map. Thought I was one depression over but when I hit #5 it all made sense-1-1:15. Many other smaller things. Poor course planning with way too much crossing which made it very hard to know where you were running. I don't understand the mentality to use all the same control as other courses to make it easier for the organizers, this is the National Championships! There was much more area to made a world class course. Also no long leg?? The units were a bit off so my time was about 5s off. Course distance was 4.6km. Nice out around 15C, a tiny bit of light rain at the start. 2nd behind a strong Jan Erik!!!

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.83 km (6:01 / km)

AM/PM COC Long at Hidden Lakes at 1:15000. Again control circles were too small and printing and tag lines were not great. Pretty decent race. Bad route to #7. Lost a few minutes at #14 couldn't make sense of the rough open and climbed too much some how, hit the trail and did't know where I was. Maybe a bad route to #18. #19 didn't use my compass to cut to the right trail- 1min. Some other smaller things as well. Nice out 18C. Felt much better than NAOC, too little too late. A lot different when you don't put a ton of pressure on yourself. Course distance was 12.8km. 1st by quite a bit!

AM NAOC Sprint in Carcross at 1:4000. Couldn't get into quarantine because the line was way too long so had to start warming up on the highway before quarantine closed, got yelled at from Brent (LOL) because he claimed it was out of bounds...ya nice try the highway was never embargoed. Shout out to him for getting me pumped for the race. Pretty stressful with all this unorganized ciaos before the start and didn't have a great feeling about the race but managed to re focus. Well once I was able to find the controls on the map it was good since the course colour printing was terrible, not sure why it was so light and how the IOF mapping committee approved this? Also not sure how Ludek Krticka didn't make a map to ISSOM standard since he is on the IOF mapping committee? Pretty good race with lots of good and safe routes in the forest section. Not the best routes in the beginning since it was impossible to see the crossing points on the map. Tried to push the running speed which I think was good but I felt slow. #6- maybe not the best route but also was hesitant which probably cost me 5s. Going to #10 the out of bounds tape along the private property boundary was wrong which cost me 3-5s...come on. I knew #12 was the make or break leg of my race so took it really cautiously in places and safe. Also so much for just running across the finish line and getting a time...you actually had to punch the last control like all the others. wow that 1s hurts. I was expecting more forest but was happy there wasn't more. It was a good fun course despite everything. 1st place for the 3rd time in a row! exactly what I have been training for.

PM NAOC Middle at Lewes lake at 1:10000. Felt a bit tired from yesterday. WOW what a surprise the controls weren't buried in the ground for this race. Pretty funny how "high" they were for this one haha. Started off ok and then got ahead of myself to #2, blew it, though I was one ridge further. Just ran around after that as I knew it was pretty much over. No confidence after yesterday and just didn't orienteer. Couldn't make sense of the map. Nice out around 20C. Course distance was 4.5km. 10th...yay!

Orienteering race 1:33:27 [5] 15.8 km (5:55 / km) +320m 5:22 / km
shoes: Inov-8 OROC 280 2016

PM NAOC Long at Croucher Mountain, 1:15000. Can't believe this was the equivilant to EOC! Control circles were way too small, map printing was far from good, pretty blurry which made the tag lines on the depressions almost impossible to see when they were there, control flags were hung so low the flags were toughing the ground in a lot of places and made them very hard to see. My race was completely sabotaged from the start. I guess Louise missed her start so was throwing a tantrum at the start which I understand but affected me trying to get ready for my race as I was already in the call up. Then the people at the start told me to move up from -3 to -2 with absolutely no time in the -3 box, then when I was at -1 the clock did not match up as it was already passed my start time so I asked whats going on and they gave me a stupid its fine answer. This completely threw me off from the beginning as I thought I missed my start! Supposedly I started 1min early which is BS, if they new I was starting early why didn't they do something about it? I screwed up #1 because of all this added stress to an already very stressful situation and the flag was completely hidden it was hung so low that I ran past it within 10m (I was on the hill but didn't see it) maybe if I wasn't so stressed already I could have taken a few seconds and not second guessed where I was. Managed to get it under control until I caught Anton and he fuck*** asked me what number I'm going to? Like really dude come on were orienteering here. I was so shocked I actually told him. I will never regret that. Of course he then followed me. Completely threw me that someone in M21E would actually ask me that. Blew it at #12 as there is NO tag line next to the control circle which made me think it was a high point. Just tried to get to the finish after this. Still don't know what my time was?? Apparently in the Yukon you can change peoples times after the official results are posted in the arena. Estimated distance as I forgot to start my watch in the shit show. Course distance was 12.1km.

It was a good course with a bit of everything!. Could have been and should have been much more enjoyable.

Pretty tough running in a lot of places with all the dead fall and super fast and open in some sections. Started to cramp a bit in the end, didn't drink enough and was decently warm probably around 23C. 4th place...wow.

Event: NAOC 2018

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 1.02 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 OROC 280 2016

AM Warm up run.

Orienteering 16:58 [3] 2.45 km (6:56 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 OROC 280 2016

AM NAOC Model. Did the first 5 controls at 1:10000 and then the rest at 1:15000. Map was good but maybe a bit too simplified in a few spots, better than the old Long Lake though. Also way faster running with not as much high dead fall and soft ground. Have really good feeling about my orienteering in this terrain, my navigation was great. The terrain reminds me of Bow Valley. Did 4 strides at the end to get the legs moving. All set for tomorrows long! Cool around 16Cish.

PM Stretch 75min.

shoes: Inov-8 OROC 280 2016

PM Training at Long Lake at 1:10000, northern part. Another EK special. Really good training. My orienteering was really good. Made one stupid mistake where I glanced down at the map and starting trying to do one leg ahead, no control numbers probably contributed to this..oh well. Took it fairly easy but the woods was really tough running for the most part. Cool, around 18Cish.
