Orienteering race 50:05 [4] 4.2 km (11:55 / km) +155m 10:04 / km

had an excellent run today. i made it slowly to #1 to build up my confidence as well as the control being extremely vague in all of that green. i also managed to catch Rebecca Freese on this control who started 2min ahead of me. on my way to #2 the green and bush kinda pushed me to the wrong side of the spur. i realised before Rebecca did and so i made it to 2 before her and that kept me ahead of her for the rest of the course. on my way to #4 Lillian Burrill caught me and overtook me. i made sure she was always in my sights and i wouldnt let Rebecca get ahead of me, so they spurred me on.
From there on, i had no troubles with any of my coutrols as i decided from#1 that i was going to trust myself. yesterday i hadnt and so ran past it but each time i was right i had just doubted myself. so today i decided to completely trust myself and this paid off. but it all comes from experience and confidence i guess.. having Roch tell me that i did well and that i'm fit also boosted my confidence..

Orienteering race 1:46:11 [3] 6.9 km (15:23 / km) +275m 12:50 / km

such a better run than yesterdays! i'm still not trusting myself though. a few times i was like "ohk it's on that boulder" but not trust myself and doubt and so go to another boulder before realising that it was the boulder that i had originally thought it was. ohh well, it all comes with experience i guess.

Orienteering race 1:20:32 [3] 3.6 km (22:22 / km) +130m 18:57 / km

Steveo's garmin said that i ended up running about 7km or something ridiculous..
good 1 and 2 then a crap 3. somehow i spent 22min on a 300m leg. was completely lost for about 15min and i was trying to relocate but couldnt. a few times i did relocate but i didnt trust myself and so i doubted myself and kept running. i ended up on the other side of 1, closer to the start. was trying to go via 2 to 3 so i knew exactly where i was but i never saw 2 again and somehow hit 3, realising that i'd ran past it a number of times already! :/ saw plenty of people in my run around. then on my way to #4 i ran past the same bare-rock and cliff face that i'd relocated off but doubted and realised that i had been right in my relocation!! :|
then i tried to calm down and start a new leg but i just couldnt get into the right frame of mind. which of course just made me even more frustrated! then for 9 it took me awhile too.. wasnt too happy at all..
thanks to Russell and Josh.B for trying to make me feel better though. i figure though that we're there for another 2 days and now that ive seen PLENTY of the map i shall have a fair idea of what will be happening for the rest of it (:
