Had so much fun on the trail yesterday we decided to try it again, this time on bikes. KDU dropped us off in Portageville and we (SW, EG, cj) rode the FLT to Mt. Morris, had lunch in town and then rode the Greenway trail to the Lehigh Valley trail back home. Fun day.

Sehgahunda Trail Marathon
Mt. Morris to Portageville on a spur of the Fingerlakes Trail thru Letchworth State Park. Have ridden this trail many times but never have run it so didn't miss this chance. Intent was to just run it as a training run and stuck to that the entire way. Ran by myself for the first 14 miles in 5th place. Made it into 4th place when the guy in front of me decided he made a wrong turn (he didn't) and ran back down the hill we had just come up. About that time EG caught me and we ran the rest of the race together. Around 19 miles we caught 3rd place hobbling and then caught 2nd and 1st place around 21 miles, both were walking. These guys paid the price for mixing it up early. At one point they had over 10 minutes on us. Old age and trechery overcomes youth and skill once again.

Stayed under control the rest of the way in with the intention of a tie and then letting the timing chips figure out who actually crossed first but EG had other plans and pushed me across the line at the last second. Bastard!

One of the most unique awards I've ever received. A deer antler with the race name stenciled on it.

Trek 3:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (36:00 / mi)
shoes: Salamon XT Wings III

Trek to three optional points in Mountain Laurel.
4 AM

Mtn Bike 2:45:00 [3] 20.5 mi (7.5 mph)

Multiple bike drops to pick up manditory points along the way and an attempt at another optional point with Laurel so thick it ripped the buckles off both my bike shoes.
Edit- Today's looking up, the buckles are replaceable!
7 AM

canoe paddle 5:00:00 [3] 14.0 mi (2.8 mph)

Enjoyable paddle down the Rondout Creek with MTBs along for fun. Canoe-bike drop along the way with a quick trek to an underground creek/cave (Pompey's Cave). Basically a dry creekbed with a hole in the rocks and a ladder leading underground to a large cave. Very cool!
12 PM

Mtn Bike 2:30:00 [3] 21.0 mi (8.4 mph)

Bike to Mohonk Preserve which includes a 1000 ft climb from the valley. Included a cool bike drop in the preserve for a hike thru giant slabs of rock.
3 PM

Trek 3:45:00 [3] 6.0 mi (37:30 / mi)
shoes: Salamon XT Wings III

Trek to optional and manditory points including a rock climb (a first, which was very intimidating) and a rappel.

Finished tied for the 4th in the coed category. We struggled with the map early on and never got going.
Overall a great race with an impressive course design. Felt like a 3 day race with all of the disciplines thrown in.

Quick trip up to the ADKs with TJU.
Hiked Gothics, Armstrong, Upper and Lower Wolfjaw from the Garden. Gothics still had large sections of snow and ice but nothing that required crampons. Summit was still clouded in but every now and then we'd get a decent glimpse of the views given the high winds. Clouds broke as we started descending and the rest of the day had excellent views. No black flies yet either.

Mtn Bike 3:00:00 [2] 13.0 mi (4.3 mph)

Rode with VL and EG after the race up thru Stid Hill and back down the other side, up CR 34 and then back side of Bristol Mtn then down thru the resort.
At the start it was 51F and sunny, when we finished it was 39 F and hail with 40 mph wind gusts. I can't remember the last time I was that cold.
10 AM

Road Bike race 2:27:00 [5] 51.3 mi (20.9 mph)
slept:8.5

Bristol Road Race
Cat 4-
(3) 17 mile laps with 2 climbs each lap, CR 34 and Egypt Hill. Didn't feel great on the first lap but I was able to stay with the leaders on both climbs. Second lap felt much better and I was able to climb pretty comfortably. Same with the first climb on lap 3 but I lost contact on Egypt right before the finish. Kind of frustrating. Estimate finish around 15th. (09MY10 Correction, 13th). Did drink and eat on lap 1 and 2 so calories weren't the issue.
Max speed was recorded as 55 mph on my bike computer. Speed limit was 40.

Hollenbeck Road Race
Cat 3/4
Felt very good on the flats but poor on the climbs. Lost contact with the what remained of the front of the race on the last climb and chased to catch back up for 5 miles, coming within about 10 seconds of making it just as they cranked it up for the finish leaving me in no mans land. I had nothing for the uphill finish at that point anyway. No idea of final placing as we took right off. Edit- 18th Cat 4, 25th overall. NG.
Time included ride back to parking lot.

Mtn Bike 1:50:00 [2] 11.0 mi (6.0 mph)
