Orienteering race 1:02:45 [3] 2.69 mi (23:20 / mi) +138m 20:07 / mi

Sunday, can't trust that day, I'd say. Really lost it on #5, spending 18' on the leg, 11-12' error time. As to how, I'll continue to ponder but did go back to the point, mostly by car, after finishing. Other points were competitive: a bit of hesitation on #2, and on #9, threw away about 1.75' not really concentrating, still had #5 on my mind...relocated 100m to the NW. That motto: "do as I say, not as I do" holds true here. Amazingly technical woods, a Milky Way of black dots runs thru the map. Some boulders were deserving of stopping in one's tracks to gaze at in awe. What's said? "Ice is nice and would suffice". What else could move them at so large a scale.

Great weekend, weather perfect & had good times with UNO teammates, particularly Carl & Mary Jo - we were the parking lot organizers, esp. Mary Jo. We learned a bunch about the ins and outs of (trying to) get cars where we wanted them to be - not always successful. Sandy Fillebrown got the most points when she rolled down her window and said "what do you want me to do." Windows up, radio on and backing in - occasionally all three at once got lowest points. Nice small Sat dinner at the Bundschuh-Ruutopold's vs the usual larger gathering. 2 nights in a tent might have worn me down more than I give it credit for - tho snug as a bug, it wasn't really my rug.

Orienteering race 43:00 [3] 3.0 mi (14:20 / mi)

Distance a guess, forgot to charge 305. UNO A meet at Harris Center. Very good run, just one mistake on #6, losing about a minute. Came upon what looked like 2 boulders but no flag. “Damn!" goes the mind, what next? Took a hard enough look at the map, figured out where I was and headed off to the north, finally seeing 2 boulders. Lost map contact about 3 times - boulders as mapped did not always look like what I was seeing which added tincture of confusion on several occasions. Decent energy, ran in shorts which feels cool=good - helps with energy.

Really splendid colors everywhere. Bundschuh-Ruutopold place is superb and superbly located on a stream and surrounded by ponds/lakes. Slept in the tent to the tune of a stream.

Old timers: Hans B, Tony F, Sharon and Jim Crawford, Per Stensby(!), Steve Tarry, John Rogers, Heather Williams, Larry & Sara Mae, Alex Kerr, Jim A.

Note

This is a semblance of what works for me and maybe others: it shows a (slightly torn, not relevant/sorry for that) BG CD. Normally the number has 4 pins to my shirt, one for each corner and, for me, the lower left would also pin the completely encased (won't tear/rip off) CD upside down.

I don’t like “stuff” on my arms...people are different. I want to see tape in a dispenser, no need for scissors. A big peeve is that, w/o the dispenser, one is often unable to find the end, and given the 60" limit in most instances, this can be quite annoying.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [1] 3.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Pawtuckaway after work, c. 3p. Lots of streamers in some areas suggesting selective logging perhaps. Crazy, long drive back - preferred byways but not getting it right. Nice October pm.

Track 24:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (4:00 @2) + (4:00 @3) + (6:00 @4) 2.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

BHS around 5:30, sun gone for most part. 5x400, harder than pleased with.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] 1.5 mi (40:00 / mi)

OLLI class with a small group of eager participants. Teaching map and compass orientation in a straightforward manner takes some thought when one sees initial attempts by intelligent people. Most enjoyed was a 350m bushwack on compass course from one known point to another, forget about map, have 'faith' in compass bearing.
