Biking 1:32:00 intensity: (46:00 @1) + (46:00 @2) 9.49 mi (9:42 / mi) +28m 9:36 / mi

Ashuelot River trail with Beth from south of Hinsdale off Rte 63 to Keene, about 20 miles, mostly along the Ashuelot river though the foliage made it hard to see much of the time. Very nice! A RR bed means flat, gentle curves only, long vistas. All kinds of riding surfaces & open vistas as well as closed-in surroundings. Early on, in places, the drop-off was as much as 40' on the right and 75' or so on the left...dawned on me how much work was involved in making such a high platform for rails. Passed near Winchester (& the noisy Monadnock speedway) & Swanzey. Mostly, we were pretty far from roads & autos. Last 4 mi or so were on a wide, hard soil-packed surface -- then into Keene & finally the car. Had the incident of the forgotten car key so I went back & moved the other car ahead to Winchester. First rails-to-trails experience. Worth finding another.

RR built 1849-51, abandoned 1983.

Biking 59:55 intensity: (38:00 @2) + (21:55 @3) 7.74 mi (7:44 / mi) +50m 7:35 / mi

Start to a point just under 4 mi & return with a bit more effort.

Biking 12:51 [1] 1.5 mi (8:34 / mi) +1m 8:33 / mi

From car to find-meet Beth & return. Too bad ride was broken up, for me anyway. Being absent-minded doesn't help matters.

Trail/woods running 42:34 intensity: (8:00 @1) + (34:34 @2) 3.88 mi (10:58 / mi) +17m 10:49 / mi

SPS noon wander - along Little Turkey Pond shore...less wet & rooty than I expected. A nice display of water lilies. Tried some "mark locations" with the 305. They don't show on track - would be interesting/nice if they did.

Trail/woods running 49:47 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (39:47 @2) 4.28 mi (11:38 / mi) +81m 10:59 / mi

Allen-WH & back thru woods. Cut it short. Too tired. Was thinking more about a nap than a run when I set out. Tried to banish the thought but couldn't rid the lack of energy. Stopped at Ken's place to catch up on Stonesled. Finished helping Peter with his part of the study window - by then, needed the nap. 305 had not located satellites - noticed around 9'10 secs.

Didn't know the track world champs were taking place. Never heard of Mo Farah and his feats in the 5 & 10,000m and now breaking Cram's 28 yr old 1500m record. Lots of endurance as well as speed. Superhuman! -- as is Usain Bolt.

Walking 39:15 [1] 1.9 mi (20:39 / mi) +52m 19:02 / mi

PM walk-DP, rest-the-legs-type day. Rt. 1st MTP sore from 2 days of hardtop. Breezy, cool. Got the pooches to pose for the periodic snapshot. Forgot to turn watch off.

Road running 1:00:42 [2] 6.1 mi (9:57 / mi) +92m 9:30 / mi

AM repeat of yesterday - same way, too, since I was meeting Beth at the store after. Still early enough to be cool enough. Tired, no surprise, hadn't recovered from yesterday. Met one other runner, this time a woman. Nearly every passer-by waves on North Haven. Encountered this roadside ghost:

Ashore around 4p - North Shore & Middle Roads. Not too hot thanks to a strong S wind. North Haven looking good: fields of waving brown grass stretching to blue, blue water. Stopped at the spring which has been providing clear water out a pipe as long as I can remember. Toward the end, an older guy was running toward me. On a whim, asked him if he was Herb Parson but he wasn't. Shucks.
