Note

Sun/Mon: drive to Maine to rain, to wind, to Port Clyde finally. No interest in rowing ashore for a run.

Road/trail 1:00:01 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (35:01 @3) + (10:00 @4) 5.84 mi (10:17 / mi) +137m 9:35 / mi

Sewall Forest, Wolfeboro, 50F, no rain. Nice trail system, Nordic center.
Didn't see much...a startled woman, a sign at the edge of the forest: "internet"
and some decent woods plus a few trim O signs. And on up-close & personal Clow St., most of the 6-7 houses had either "OBama/Biden" or "Romney/Ryan" signs in each others' faces.

Passed right by Merrymeeting Lake turnoff coming & going.

Woods/trail 20:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (10:00 @3) 1.6 mi (12:30 / mi)

Waited all day for rain to stop or at least diminish to tolerable. But it didn't, so out door just after 4p. Really should have gone to the gym in town but inertia trumped contemplation of a 13mi RT drive. Had a good SW'er-type hat and dry-cleaner's plastic bag to put over head with cuts for arms. Still got wet too fast however...and puddles were insurmountable. Took Z along who enjoyed the wet and spent extra time eating grass while I read a magazine article in the shelter of the station wagon rear door. Such a contrast to yesterday. Dreary, dreary but the yellows and oranges were even brighter today.

Spent 75' organizing O maps which have "come undone" for various reasons in past few years. Making an "all WP & Harriman" pile regardless of year was one easy solution for a good # of maps. Another was all Bear Brook, all Pawtuckaway and still another just Nottingcook piles. Then Scottish 6-days, WMOCs, O-Ringens, Then some alphabetical piles - 2 of those regardless of year. Underneath inside lies: separate piles of only Massachusetts, only NH, only NY, only CT (I think) and "all misc foreign" regardless of how I came upon them...I think that's about it. Can't easily lift the top to see because of the more recent maps. Those beneath are generally more than 15 years old. ...the courage to burn, destroy some...say 1/5th?

Woods/trail 30:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (10:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Went to SPS with idea of 3x1 mile on the track @ 7:30 pace. Turned out to be too busy so I resorted to the XC course - but basically had lost interest when I was unable to do what I'd set out to do...how brittle is that....
Flexibility wasn't in the cards for some reason. Got the HR up & then departed (before accomplishing much of anything).

Walking 27:30 [1] 2.0 mi (13:45 / mi)

DP mostly, their faces in mine while trying to take a nap. Just make sure joints etc remain facile while carrying out a you-deserve-a-brake-today day. Warm, overcast. Forest is aglow with yellows.

Hiking 6:30:00 [1] 8.9 mi (43:49 / mi) +1198m 30:54 / mi

Franconia Ridge Trail with Peter and George, an impromptu success. Up Falling Waters Tr., then along the ridge over Lincoln and Lafayette to Greenleaf Hut & continuing down Bridal Path. Fabulous early fall day! - could see forever. Some wind on the ridge in contrast to the warm Indian summer day below. Both of my companions were walking-talking AMC trail guides - as well as identifying peaks far to the east & west. Forgot to restart the 305 twice. Beth came as well & hiked up Canon, down Kinsman Ridge Tr. to Lonesome Lake Tr. and back to Lafayette camp ground where we all reconvened. Then back to George's place in Alexandria for a lovely meal Jenny made. Indeed, a memorable day. Phil wasn't around to pick up the pace although George was up to his old "fast forward" tricks in the last few miles (s/p 2 hip replacements).

Road/trail 1:10:05 [3] 7.36 mi (9:31 / mi) +187m 8:50 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Hopkinton loop, CCW. Felt pretty good, perfect temp. Mostly dirt road, confusion where Burnt Hill & Salmen met - took wrong turn but added minimally. By end of "chunky" dirt road stretches, soles were sore. Need new/more cushioning. Try short cut off Old Holmes next, perhaps.
