DP/run blend. Ride to OJR access from Beth & home thru woods & along BBR w/ leashes. Nice trail for most part - used to run it fairly frequently but not much at all since Nottingcook. Winter '02-3, used it alot w/ Z&M. M was 4-6 mos old then & the path section was a good challenge esp. w/ Z tormenting as a 13-14 m/o sib might do.

Janelle's Tilton graduation, perfect wx. Gilmore for dinner. Busy day but
a run every day is pretty paramount tho still sluggish.

Woods/trail 26:00 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (22:00 @2) 2.2 mi (11:49 / mi)

DP, cool woods, warm day in store. Jogged for a change & chose Bower loop. Beavers have flooded the SVT & best choice was to remove shoes & socks & wince at gravel jabs. Saw some big tadpoles for recompense. Heard what sounded like bigtime chainsawing in the direction of Parson's. May is progress time perhaps. End-arounded beaver flood returning and couldn't have hit it better were I following streamers. Nice outing - need to get fluid. Missed CH Race and Rock again - this time with a good excuse (not in town by some hours). Was a time when 5k contemplation led to adrenalin production. Probably will again but not at present.

shoes: New Balance 1011

PM run up Allen, thru Nottingcook & back staying away from BBR. By passed the beaver flood for an unexpected second time. Felt like a slug. Consummate May eve. Encountered Beth's car at PL doing the PMDP and ran within a few feet. Be interesting to get dog report re detecting my having passed by in the few minutes they were away from car. Glad we didn't meet.

Trout Pond trail for trophic activity. Not at North Beach, not to Sag, not at Wildlife Refuge...dogs and/or fatigue/too early. Finding dog-friendly places in unfamiliar places isn't always easy! (esp. if homework not done).

Note

Too tired/too much driving for a run. Rowayton to Bridgeport ferry to Petite Fleur in Holbrook to Brad's & finally out to Cedar Point. Had envisioned a run at Cedar Point but again ran out of time. Not able to camp Mon thru Wed before Memorial Day so drove into Sag looking for a motel. Very few & surprisingly, the one with the many rooms was entirely booked - price was $185/night which wasn't a match anyway. Ended up camping in Bobby's side yard (learned she's not lived there since 9/09 and not 9/10 as I had thought). 'Sensual' is the word that came to mind: a canopy of trees swaying with boughs 'murmuring and sighing' (along with a wind chime) in the lively NW wind...didn't sleep well at all but memorable.

Nursing homes are places where one takes a number and usually looks miserable (at considerable expense) while waiting to die. Bobby looked pretty good, her compatriots did not.

Orienteering 45:00 [1]

WPR with Beth & dogs. Thought rain had quit but heavy much of way on Rte 84. Parked at Ski TC lot. Not much will to head off in rain - no cap or visor but once away in that lovely terrain, everything brightened up if not the sky. Run did peter out fairly quickly but then into a fine map walk for the most part, admiring open forest on 1/15 scale. After WPR drove to Rowayton in more hard rain. Very wet few days.

Easily spoiled

Night with Kuhners, Bridgeport ferry at 1030 Wed.

DP, control pickup. 2nd DP, first under an umbrella in fairly hard rain, still fun. Dogs subsequently spent most of day in back of station wagon in garage w/ door open so as to survey driveway activities. Time again to do something. Tired from yesterday, getting the last 2 flags was right. No map so viewing was quite different. Mocha found a small porcupine. Proud of her demonstrating she’s learned to leave enough alone. Also, a fellow with a petite yellow lab M tried to bully and a red eft. Showery day. Darkishness highlighted green mansion(s).

Purgatory loop for Mother’s day Sunday. Early enough to start cool & dew-scented. Decided CW at last moment & away into green, May and June be green and Sunday morn be quiet. Tired by end. Thought some about the Krista Tippett program from earlier featuring a Gordon Hempton, an acoustic ecologist who studies/pursues sound in nature. So much of our sound is indeed noise pollution. He was full of interesting commentary, eg, “birdsong is the primary indication of habitats prosperous for a human.” Silence & true solitude are hard to come by. I think he had 12 places in the US for true silence (maybe 3 left)...one is a stand of trees in the Hoh rain forest in Olympic NP. Has a web presentation, "One Square Inch", well worth visiting. At one point, sounds were reasonably pure: birdsong, bubbling Black Brook alongside Black Brook Road plus my breathing (not too bad) and footfall.

Stopped at Glenwood, the curious came to peer

Have seen this in a 25 sq mile area

only on the final one I noted on the run today, was there additional info: lost vic. 81 Hackett Hill (name of an early O map) Rd., 4/21, bolted from vet’s office, no collar or tag. Hope they found him, hope they remove the signs (maybe hundreds) someday.
