Walking 20:00 [1] 0.5 mi (39:59 / mi)

Usual DP, lovely morning with puffy whites & banks of clouds blown across the sky by the NW wind - & surprisingly mild. Grumbled about the Boyscout mess in "my" pine amphitheater & vowed to speak to them this summer. Didn't pay much attention to the leg but it was making no complaints of its own. As I type I can hear a squirrel about 5' directly above me chewing on something in the wall/under the roof - I'll mobilize the H a H trap asap - can stand squirrels doing same about as well as dogs walking thru garden/ferns, ie, zero tolerance.

Road/trail 37:00 [2] 3.7 mi (10:00 / mi)

Took dogs out early as Z was ramping up the pest factor. Loop around the bog.

Entered BG.

Walking 21:00 [1] 0.8 mi (26:16 / mi)

AM DP, rained last night, mild, cloudy - carpe diem every May day. Walk & jog a bit.

Road running 1:01:56 [2] 5.5 mi (11:16 / mi)

Luti route with Diane - just get around. Took some 25' for leg to work. Good thing I never considered the TT this weekend (but what a nice O opportunity) - would have cancelled. 3 weekends away is a bit much anyway, particularly considering distance travelled on each weekend.

'Tis the welcomed TGIF; 5 & 2 cycling becomes wearisome. Workers of the world, unite! :-).

Beth just called from near Hoover Dam - Death Valley earlier, she being 'the easy rider' for now.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.4 mi (49:59 / mi)

AM DP, encouraging, took 4 alleve over a 6 hr period yesterday, may have helped.

Drove by turkey hunter truck, parked on edge of arena. A lovely May morning: cloudless blue, spring green, esp birch leaves, birdsong galore, rwb's in the marsh cattails. Noted that more vegetation had been cut on power line - the high sumac is gone, change, change. Could have used a camera.

FP, marathon, AA park O, my local, WP, CT A meet all past history, time marches on.

Went out the door (to work) with camera...7 Allen brook reflecting May foliage

Road running 39:59 [2] 3.7 mi (10:48 / mi)

Noon, not as good as I was hoping for - took 15' for tightness/uncoordination to clear up - not a good place to be. Retrospect recognizes what happened: relatively low mileage week between 2 A meets - come home w/ BG in mind (run 10 mi maybe twice), also 7' training pace for Concord Race & Rock 5k (which I like/want to do) & likely Pine Hill park O - so get to work...run home Monday 7.7 mi mixed terrain, 87'...ok...then "pull" (+ "where's he been"/my insecurity?) of track workout w/ GSR...push hard enough when sensibility called for nothing of the sort & voila: pull up short as it evolved. Did something very similar on track 2 days after 6hr rogaine in heat w/ cramps w/ CD in '07 - led to a month off due to injury. Three times & out or close to it anyway.

A pretty woman ran by, surprising me - an elbow away, on Clinton - tall, long black tights/not too tight, long sleeve shirt, black hair & bandana - should have picked up speed & queried her as she was not a familiar noon time persona...maybe mysterious is better.

Walking 22:30 [1] 1.0 mi (22:30 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

DP, expected it to be a run/jog but L hamstring again makes itself known fm yesterday's track: tight, sl sore, ever so sl dysfunctional - as in March - so generally walked. Saw a hunter first thing - turkeys now - dressed in fatigues, carrying a big black 'stick', returning to a big bad Darth Vader pickup...get out of here, hunter! Surprised dogs did not bark but he was behind us - I parked in front. October & May, my two favorite outdoor months, to be shared with hunters.

Road running 44:39 [2] 4.4 mi (10:09 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

Noon Water Tower w/o w/ Diane. Somewhat incapacitated for time being with ham which continued to make itself better acquainted over course of day - but did get thru 4.4 easy as a form of keeping loose/not giving in to injury mentality. Similarly afflicted maybe 4 wks back, this may be a bit moreso, however.

A red fox loped across the road 100' in front of the car on way to work.

Note

Day began with 0358 alarm, Beth to airport to 'play' in California. No milk (or ice cream for that matter), cereal with water for a finale. Out door at 0440, coyotes right at end of house yapping, on & then off like a light switch - they've always been at a considerable distance - this was within 100 yards. Alarm had to do with dogs. Mocha took umbrage but then decided that a ride in the car was more important so that potential problem did not materialize. Off to the airport, a sliver of a moon & 'the morning star' lending their presence. Came home, did a non-DP reading the paper under the power line around 0540. It was 32F, the sun's rays had not made their way to the ground. Took a nap for awhile & then to work.

Track 15:21 [4] 3.6 km (4:16 / km)
shoes: New Balance 992

Tuesday night GSRC workout. Went to Memorial field but there was a meet so went to SPS planning on something by myself but turns out that is the backup place for the runners - so there they were. Need to get on email list.
Workout was 400@10k pace, 400 jog, 800@5k, 400 jog, 800@5k, 400 jog, 1200@10k, 400 jog, then 3 times 400, 200 hard, 200 rest. 96, 2:18, 3:24, 2:20, 3:27, 2:25, 5:22, 2:22, :47, :74, :45, :75. Did not see that there were 3 400's, did 2. Numbers showed me I was tired. 6:40 pace is 3:20 for 800 & only 2 laps vs 4 & this was a struggle etc. Interesting to be on track with some 30 odd runners all working hard. SPS is always a solitary experience.
Saw Dave Ayotte again, this time on Logging Hill Road - pretty sure he covers near to 100 mpw.

Track 23:00 [2] 2.34 mi (9:50 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

2 k jogging between parts of workout as well as DP of 1.1 mi at home in Nottingcook before going.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.5 mi (35:59 / mi)

AM DP, May looking very nice in NH - ferns making their debut. Went out to base of contours, got slightly mixed up twice, flat and marshy for the most part, a lot of indistinct vegetation. Billy Goat was a year ago today, now it's just a Monday morning.

Road/trail 1:25:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (50:00 @3) 7.7 mi (11:02 / mi) +110m 10:34 / mi
shoes: New Balance 1011

Home from NHH via Clinton, Silk Farm & into town forest by the fire station. Probably longer than was called for & tired by the end but wanted some miles & did not feel particularly beat up from weekend. Literally ran into Dave Ayotte coming the opposite direction on Silk Farm. Had been thinking of first meeting him on this road in '96 or '97 running & there he was again! Said he was running 18+ miles, had to get home for dinner & works the graveyard shift at the PO in Manchester - for the past 23 years. Have seen him at various local road races, about 44 yrs old. Can't recall when, if ever, I ran on Silk Farm headed home or any other direction.

Orienteering race 59:47 intensity: (50:00 @3) + (9:47 @4) 5.5 km (10:52 / km) +140m 9:39 / km
shoes: Teva

WCOC A meet, long. Blustery, chilly NW day but fine when in motion. B/B+ run, only missed one control by maybe 1.5-1.75', need to see splits. This was #7 - had the distinct feeling I was being followed (4-5 controls) & was distracted & went left of line going up hill & misread what I was seeing. Rest was pretty much straight-to, very nice woods for the most part. Mt. laurel areas provided a good change of pace/style - did spent more time passing thru mt laurel than I should of, perhaps. Did not spend enough time on 2 or 3 of the legs weighing route choice but just went straight, often thru the laurel. Was first M60, not sure what Jeff did. Was ahead of tp for the 2 day by one second - he was 4 ahead yesterday, so I got him by 5 seconds today - how to do....

Very nice meet as I'd expect from WCOC. Awards showed creativity as well as choice of bus drivers. Really wanted to get on the road so we flipped a coin in the car - Beth called it so in I went. Within 2', PG had announced that Beth had won an award (she was still in car putting shoes on) & I'd collected one as well as BP's - 3 awards in about 7' and away. Fun to see Beth pleased with herself:-). 540 mi for weekend.

Ended up first on green summary; time is running out:-).
