Road running 50:03 [3] 5.3 mi (9:27 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Noon, decent energy, Luti but picked up SPS XC for 3 splits. Passed Diane taking it easy after 15 mi trail race yesterday.

Trail/woods running 14:19 [2] 1.2 mi (11:56 / mi)

DP, bright, just right temp. Amazing how clouds & rain slipped away under the cover of night.

Wood hauling/stacking 2:30:00 [1]

Stacking & hauling with Aaron in the outside gym. Made sure I tired myself out. 6 cords finally stacked.

Orienteering 1:31 intensity: (30 @1) + (1:01 @2) 7.0 km (13 / km)
shoes: Loco training

At Bear Brook, went to find Alexey & look over some of the area being mapped. One part of spurs, depressions, knolls very attracitve, woods quite open. BB has alot of green, however, as well. Went all the way to swamp. So many recollections of time spent on skiis or foot O. The ski O I set up but never happened due to lack of snow. 32 years of BB this fall. Had last revison from '98, course Ernst made Sept '98 in this area of fine contours. Took dogs who are now flattened on floor. A fine day with temp near 60F.

Alexey at work...

Note

Thought I might get consistent but another miss day. Back from York (mostly changed oil) around 5p, depressing, wet, grey day so I bagged it. Cup of tea, fire & paper even if dogs are displeased. Sun tomorrow, maybe I'll make up for Sat as well - 2-3 hrs woodstacking & at least one run. Third weekend in a row where one of the days featured hard rain. Saw the '09 USOC map, looks like a great O challenge.

October speeds along, this fall moment captured in 1966...

Trail/woods running 49:00 [3] 5.3 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Noon Luti route with Diane but cut some corners so as to be back by 1pm. Perfect temp, good energy, ran some at the end at 4+ effort. 50 on 50 off is decent training.

Looking at the day's entry reminds me USOC in WI. Did not seriously consider - too much running around, one day event for champs and WI a bit far & not so interesting for me. Glad to be going no further than 60 mi from home this weekend. Attended 2 USOC's in WI at Telemark, already old history. Traverse & Fair Hills 1/2 O marathon are really all that's on the radar.

At the second Telemark, recall the finish layout, woods direct, motor idling, looking for Ron Hudson who appeared late, meaning I'd won. Recall Ron beating PG at a USOC in CA, Fallen Leaf '03, on a map about which there were mapping standard/control site choice complaints. I'd chased that map maker/course designer Fin national team member/CA resident through VA woods at yet another USOC. He told me he was going to beat PG at some subsequent USOC but that did not happen for reasons I can't recall - even including not attending. After the '82 USOC French Creek meet, where I'd run up a storm beating Platt but not Weyman, Beth & I spent the evening with Ron at the Shawangunks in NY, admiring his clean plate which included eating the chicken bones.

Road running 41:49 [3] 3.8 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Noon SLoGo with Diane. Not the advertised 70F or so.

Trail/woods running 13:57 [5] 2.1 mi (6:39 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

SPS XC after work in an attempt to redeem myself for all the 10' pace stuff but more for fact that last 2 tries there failed to break 15', a serious breach of capability. So had a touch of nervous energy which carried the distance for sub-14. Think I did sub-14 before but could not find - only some sub 14:10's. Now feel a bit better, redemption.... Maybe also demonstrating that it is not necessarily the season of hibernation.

Trail/woods running 19:00 [2] 1.5 mi (12:40 / mi)

Misty in places on DP - took a route thru woods, got off trail, the world unexplored for the most part. Always enjoy playing hide & seek wtth dogs, observing frantic nose-to-the ground activity.

Trail/woods running 49:00 [3] 4.5 mi (10:53 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Abridged water tower loop with Diane at noon. On a wide path, guy galloping along toward us...turned out to be an old boyfriend of D's, also named Brian like her current. She broke off the relationship because "he was too young", maybe 7 yrs younger. He probably thought I'd come after the second Brian....

Note

This fellow has been living in the wall right in front of the computer - alot of disconcerting scratching for some time. Spruced up the Have-a-Heart & caught him. Left him in mud room & this am poor fellow was half frozen. Felt badly as that was unintentional cruelty. Left him under wraps near the wood stove & came home to find his feistiness had returned. Off to a distant wood...

To Zoe: "Any closer & I'll bite your nose off" (indeed a big boast)...

Trail/woods running 13:40 [2] 1.2 mi (11:23 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

DP, 28F in Concord, fcst to 60F today. Beth back, division of labor has returned:). Don't believe dogs sense difference between 14' and, say, 30' DP - they appear equally pleased with the shorter.

Trail/woods running 51:34 [3] 5.6 mi (9:13 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

Noon, missed Diane, both looking for each other. Birch8 loop cutting corners to try to make a bit more interesting. About 0.8 in pkng lot as I waited. Sat view shows some new possibilities.

Missed Tu track for third Tu helping Alexey get a rental car for a small fortune. Damage waiver $20/d for 23 days (skipped liability, optional in NH) on top of some $715-820 for mo or 3+ wks, whichever less - got tired of considering options & was not going to MCH, there last night & would have to be there 11/13 (...between the lines it says "fed up"). Not sure what Russian auto ins would accomplish here, doubt much if at all knowing how auto rental companies function. So be it - asked for suggestions/input, heard nothing. Took him to dinner at Margarita's after. He helped with BOS version of map for tomorrow's BOS mtg - OCAD ace as might be expected.
