Vulture Bait 50k. Pretty foolish to think I could have a good race here so soon after Bear100, but I had signed up several months ago due to its popularity. First lap was fine - kept on the heels of the very speedy Wokitoki who set a strong pace to bring us through the transition in 3rd spot. Second lap was a gong show though - took 25 minutes longer, and I would drop 3 positions as a result. I probably shouldn't have expected any less given how badly beaten up I was only 3 weeks earlier, but something just didn't feel right. My legs seized at 30k and I felt completely knackered - I literally couldn't have run another step past the finish. 50k is generally a distance I'm pretty comfortable at, but there was nothing 'comfortable' about the back half on this one. After watching Bent come through shortly after, I limped off like a wounded duck, and will likely be limping straight throught to Tuesday at this rate. Yeesh...
