Orienteering race (SA Sprint Champs) 32:00 [3] 3.43 km (9:20 / km)
(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Glad I made the decision to wear X-Talons. My feet got soaking wet in the long grass and runners would have felt very heavy at this stage. Also the grass was quite slippery. Cautious start, but navigating through and around the grass gully was reasonably simple. Still made a small error on 3 (blaming Bruce here; he came past me like a steam train and I followed him before realising the track was going around the corner). Not so great when I got into the buildings. Quite hesitant and should have gone left around the OOB to 13. Stuttered around before I realised it was down on the wall. Ok through the rest except for 20 where I headed straight past the small building towards the control I could see on the knoll. Skidded to a halt and had to come back. Enjoyable run around.

Still coughing and sniffling. Had a big coughing fit when I finished. Gave myself a headache.

It has started. I got beaten by Mason on one common leg and by Torren on another. Bloody hell.

Personal Training (Group) 1:00:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Nike Vomero

Maree makes you think she is all lovely and soft and not a personal trainer tyrant and then she turns into one! This is why I missed last weeks Tuesday class. First of all it was just me for the first 10 mins and I started to think that maybe I could really slack off and even leave a little bit early seeing as I was sick. But then Leanne turned up so I had to switch out of slacker mode. 2x 3 station circuits with kettle weights (big heavy things that make your arms feel like they are going to drop off). Cardio 'break' on the rower first, aiming to get to 500m under 2 mins (did it) and then sprinting on the treadmill while Leanne was rowing. Took me a minute or two to recover from that. 10 through to 1 each of push ups, full sit ups and jumping squats. For the less mathematically inclined, that is 55 of each. Prone hold combination to finish.

Still have my head cold but marginally better today. Felt a little short of breath on the treadmill but otherwise ok. Sore hamstrings from yesterday which were not happy when I repeated the same exercise today.

I have put away my passport. Not going to France. Feel for Bruce who is extremely disappointed at not getting selected after clearly being the third best runner in the Sprint format.

Personal Training (Twosome) 1:00:00 [3]

Had a shocking nights sleep last night, probably due to not being able to breathe and then waking when Bruce arrived home (after midnight, I think). Felt really terrible but it was too late to cancel session. Decided to take it easy and stop if I felt too sick. Surprisingly, I felt better as the session went on. Three circuits of three exercises, x2.

Spoke to my brother tonight as he is in Perth for a month on his twice yearly trips home from the US. He said Bruce was the 'Mike Hussey' of Australian Orienteering. I take it that means he is old but is still Orienteering well.
