US South Camp Middle Time Trial

Each of us put out a group of flags with SI units as a warmup and then had a 2-minute start interval.

GAOC was very accommodating in providing us flags, stakes, and even SI Air cards. I haven't run too often in NorAm with SI Air, so being able to use it for a training was a real treat. It really gave me the feeling of being at a high level competition somewhere in Europe. I'd like to use this for our camp in June.

The only significant loss of time was at #2, really vague area.

A bit of time lost on 13 and 18 also. 13 because I went slowly through vague terrain and 18 because I swung too far right.

Really happy with the execution on 4, 11, and 16.

Memory Course

For this training, the maps were placed at the start triangle and were not allowed to be moved. So you had to focus on simplifying each leg as much as possible while still being accurate.

I misplaced 3 by about 20m and messed up 6 a bit. But overall pretty good. It's always surprising how much I'm actual able to remember on courses like these.

It's also a very freeing experience to run through the woods without a map. I think that quite often we get bogged down by the map and let it cloud our vision. It's good to remember that having a clear view of the terrain is just as important.
