Hiking at Rocky Mountain National Park from the Wild Basin trailhead (in the SE corner of the park). Trail led past Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascade on its way to Ouzel Falls. Looped back on a different trail on the other side of the North St. Vrain Creek. Temperatures in the 60s and partly sunny (but with some very light occasional sprinkles as afternoon clouds and thunderstorms moved in over the mountains). Nice hike, mostly in the woods. Aspens are starting to turn yellow already.

Brown course on Superfly Marsh map. 4.1k, 160m climb. Pretty speedy course with two route choicy legs and two more technical controls in a rocky area. Some dead running near the end following a fence most of the way to a control.

Very good run, hitting them all and picking good routes where there were options. Only limiting factor was oxygen supply. First on Brown by a bunch.

Brown course on Twin Boulders map. 4.2k, 150m climb, 1:10,000. A more physically and navigationally challenging course than yesterday - quite a bit of sage and some hill climbing. Nice course by Graham Baird.

Very good run. Lost a minute on the second control by not looking uphill as I crossed below the control (thought I was above it). Otherwise hit all the controls pretty well. Apparently I can run up hills and through sage pretty well as I was fastest on the course by almost 6 minutes.

Brown course on Pelican East map. 4.0k, 120m climb. Smokin’ fast! Mostly follow a straight line and find the piece of rock with a bag hanging by it. Another fine weather day - 60s and sunny.

Very good run, hitting all of the controls with occasional hesitations to read the fine details. Second overall on Brown, 1:02 behind Sverre.

Middle distance Brown on Granite Planite map. 3.1k straightline, printed at 1:7500. Lots of rock detail along with some speedy running and a fine course by Mikell. Lots of fun. Sunny, dry and upper 60s - just about perfect.

Had a good run. Started 4 minutes behind Dennis W and caught him at #4. We flip-flopped until #10. Lost about 45 sec on 12 by staying too close to the aspens, resulting in going through some junkiness and side-hilling - up and over the hilltop would’ve been faster. Off on my bearing going to 14 and misread the rocky hill I planned to attack from so puzzled a bit to figure things out - 1:15 or so. Out of oxygen so had to walk more on my way to 16 than I wanted to. Fastest on Brown (and in M65), only 33 seconds up on Sverre.

One Cowboy Relay on Rattlesnake Hill map. Five loop motala with the first four loops shuffled and then everyone doing the same final loop. Lots of sage and brittle brush plus hills and rocks. More navigational challenge than yesterday. Tried to not push hard and intended to walk the final loop, but then people appeared and so more running happened. Finished 21st or 22nd I think. Three of the first loops were very similar and a few times I found controls from other loops. Missed on two controls in the final loop but got saved by others. Low 70s, dry, sunny.

Mass start Red course on Lights of Cheyenne map. Welcome to running at 8200'! Nominally 7.7k but I cut the course short by going from control 9 to 13. Straightforward navigation since there was a train to follow most of the time. Nice to be running in dry air.
