Red course at Rutgers Ecological Preserve. 7.2k, 145m (but seemed like less). 1:7500 with 2.5m contours. Heavy trail network with woods in between ranging from wide open to blood-letting brambles. The vegetation is well mapped and course setter Patrick Shannon did a very good job taking us into the nice sections of woods and giving us trail route options around most of the nasty stuff. Temperature in the upper 30s, mostly cloudy and breezy (not noticeable in the woods). Some standing water in the woods and some of the trails were a bit muddy.
Had a decent run, staying disciplined to avoid cutting through nasty stuff. Lost time on 12 when I did an extra loop exiting 11 in the wrong direction. Hesitated on the way to 8 and took a longer trail route choice to avoid woods going to 18 which cost some time.
Thanks to Patrick for setting a fun course and to the registration and results folks who braved the cold (the Franks and John G. and probably some others).

Little Lehigh Parkway from parking near the covered bridge. Upper 30s, mostly cloudy, some breeze. Saw a great blue heron standing in the creek - he looked cold.
