US Masters Champs at Bigelow Hollow SP. Brown X, 3.9k, 95m. Quite different from yesterday, even though it was just the other side of the same park. Much more green, most of it mountain laurel mapped as dark green. The vegetation mapping was excellent, so the trick was to find the corridors through the thicker stuff (and read the rock features). Perfect weather, upper 40s-low 50s, sunny and dry.

A good run, with three errors on the order of 60-90sec each. Took the route to the left around the cliffs from 1 to 2 and checked out the Brown Y control, which apparently squandered enough time to register as an error on AP. Was overreading the rock on the way to 5 and got low enough to see the trail and then had to climb back up to the control. For 7 I successfully executed my plan to go up the big hill and skirt the green to hit the major trail, then left the trail at the seasonal stream, crossed the marsh and hill through the white corridor, but then headed straight up the reentrant south of the one I wanted (probably because I saw people coming down it). Headed north along the base of the hill to the control. Orange/yellow level controls the rest of the way in (with 8 and 9 tucked into greenish stuff) - AP gives me 30sec of time loss on the mostly trail run to 10, so I guess I was lallygagging. Also lost a bit on the run-in following a use trail which got me between the two small ponds near the lake.

Fifth in M65 for the day (and for the two-day combined). 7th on Brown X today (10th yesterday). 7th for 2-day combined overall.

US Masters Champs Day 1 at Bigelow Hollow SP near Union, CT. Brown X, 4.1k, 90m. Mostly open woods with plenty of rock underfoot and lots of rock and mountain laurel detail (typical New England terrain).

Had an OK run. Overshot 5 by misreading the detail in the circle (didn't see there was a hill there, thought it was one big spur). Bonehead error to 7 misreading trails and running ~150m toward 8 then having to double back. Probably could've been quicker to 4 had I not aimed off as far to the right. Small corrections going in to both 1 and 2.

Fun course by Jon Campbell. Perfect weather - sunny, dry, in the 50s.
