Pinchot State Forest, Thornhurst area. Parked near Big Pine Hill and ran mostly on the Pinchot Trail, although segments of it have different names (likely the 26-mile long Pinchot Trail was created by uniformly blazing pieces of an existing trail network to create a big loop). The trail is mostly single track with some rocky areas (duh-Pennsylvania!). Started to fade after about 4 miles and intermixed running and hiking for the later part of the run. It didn’t seem particularly hot but it was in the low 70s and sunny. Leaf out is just beginning, so there wasn’t much shade so maybe I was affected more than I thought. Visited the observation deck on top of Big Pine Hill - you can see quite far, but all you see is lots of forest.

A stroll on a wide, grassy snowmobile trail next to the Spruce Swamp Natural Area.

5 x 300m with 60sec recovery. Second and third had some downhill, fourth and fifth had some uphill. Low 70s and muggy with a range from showers to sun.

A middle distance course I sketched out at the Thomas Iron Works site in Hellertown (map by Petr Hartmann - we may eventually use it for an actual competitive event, so I hid the track - a small but detailed area best used between November and March when the vegetation is in retreat). 3.2k, 22 controls, no flags or streamers. I had planned to use this as a test of the O-range app, but something's funky with the georeferencing and things weren't lining up so I just ran it and recorded the track. Found all the control sites OK with an occasional hesitation to confirm. Also found a couple of areas of stinging nettles :-( . Lower 60s and breezy.

Test walk of the O-range app in the neighborhood using a contrived data file. Two points at sidewalk junctions - spiked them both (the app declared my arrival before I actually got there). Plan to test it on a real map tomorrow.

Down the road and back with some added excursions. Upper 60s and breezy.
