Orienteering race 53:38 [4] *** 5.7 km (9:25 / km) +138m 8:24 / km
spiked:14/16c shoes: Black Jalas

Green Day 1 at US Classic Champs in Uwharrie National Forest. Mostly open woods with excellent visibility. 3m contours so things were a bit subtle. Mapping of rock was different than usual but useful once you understood it. Sunny and in the 50's, nearly perfect.

A good run. Lost contact on the way to #8 but recovered fairly quickly and only lost 2-3 min. Lost 20-30 seconds on #11 being off to the right (also took a fall on this leg and banged my knee).

No FR trace - didn't want to hassle with a taped display to keep me from cheating. With a GPS I'm sure I could've matched Joe B's 41 min for the course. :-)

Red course at DVOA local event at Fort Washington SP (no, we didn't drive this far just to orienteer - visiting family in the area). Lots of short legs, wide open woods and lots of trails. Off-line on a couple of controls early then bobbled two more technical controls in a maze of dark green blobs. Probably could've been 4 or 5 minutes faster. Low 40's, partly cloudy and some breeze. Straightline distance 6.7km, 180m climb.

Trail Run warm up/down 3:37 intensity: (26 @1) + (2:10 @2) + (1:01 @3) 0.36 mi (10:03 / mi)
