Orienteering race 28:07 [5] *** 3.37 km (8:20 / km)
spiked:10/11c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Sprint 1 at Ratlum Mountain. A bit of laurel thrashing and searching some for a few of the controls but otherwise a decent run. Should've gotten to the trail quicker on my way to #8 and then stopped short near the circle. Nice course but more like a middle course time and navigation-wise than a sprint (but that's OK). Wet woods from earlier rain but quite tame compared to the weather at other Ratulm events. Apparently George had all the wildlife accompanying him on his course, so no sightings (other than George a few times).

Orienteering race 18:14 [5] *** 2.28 km (8:00 / km)
spiked:10/12c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Sprint 3 (of 2) at Ratlum Mtn. Not as good a run as Sprint 1. Cut in too early for #1, took a bad route to #7 (went north to the bigger trail and had to cut across), and went brain dead for #11. Could've been two minutes faster. Missed having fastest total time (for males) by about 25 sec, which saved me from getting to wear a laurel wreath and have my picture taken. :-)

Trail Run 46:22 [3] 4.88 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: NB 874

Run at Kennedy Park in Lenox. Trails are in superb condition thanks to little rain recently and mountain bikes rolling them smooth. And a perfect day for running with temps in the 60's, partly cloudy and low humidity. First run here since last fall sometime. Did a generally clockwise loop, opposite of what I usually do and ventured onto some trails I don't recall being on in quite some time. Several unleashed dogs (more or less with owners) but not a single one even showed an interest in me. A very fine overall experience.

Orienteering race 1:17:52 [4] *** 7.2 km (10:49 / km) +200m 9:30 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at NEOC event at Gay City SP. Pretty much nice open woods with some occasional ferns which made seeing the ground difficult. Navigated well for all but 3 legs. Drifted off to the right on #3 (as many seemed to) and saw the marsh off the map south of the NEOC troll. Finally bailed south to the trail and recovered. (lost ~2min). Was drawn down into the marshy area N of #5, expecting the mapped light green to look different than it did. Checked out a few unmapped rocky things in the marsh (2 min lost). Lost at least 3 minutes #9 by rotating my map 90 degrees and changing a staightforward follow-the walls leg into a relocation exercise. Getting sluggish near the end since it was warm and quite muggy. Otherwise was reading the terrain pretty well and staying in contact. Forerunner measured 8.62 km.
