Orienteering race 38:40 [3] 5.12 km (7:33 / km) +50m 7:12 / km
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212s 26/02/12

AOA relays at waiuku north. Today was not my day... firstly was rather tired from being up until 2:30am for grad ball last night. Then on top of this rolled my L ankle twice on the course!! aah! First time was just before control 4 and really freaked me out - I saw world cup flash before my eyes - and had to hobble in pain for a bit. But thank god, I was able to run again after a little while. Then it happened again before control 11 on the same ankle. This made me a bit hesitant and scared for the rest of the course :( also stuffed up control 12 - maybe a bit distracted and not really concentrating?

I don't think the ankle is too bad fortunately, but I should probably tape it for the next little while as I don't want to risk anything else happening. It's a bit bruised and swollen but hopefully nothing too disastrous...

Somehow my team managed to win the relays though, probably no thanks to me, but yay! Good to get a win for AOC (apparently we haven't had one for a while...).

Running warm up/down 5:00 [1]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212s 26/02/12

Bit of a jog to warm up. Didn't warm down because of the ankle.

Running 1:29:01 [3] 16.0 km (5:34 / km) +255m 5:09 / km
shoes: New Balance W890 GH2

Longish run around Glendowie, GI, Kepa bush etc. Tried to include as much offroad running as possible which was good. Felt pretty crappy the whole run though, didn't enjoy it all that much. Tried to pace myself and go a bit slower but it didn't work because I still felt bad.

Note

This is the time when I get a bit depressed with all the "yay I've finished med school!" status updates... Research feeling not so good right now.

Running 1:04:47 [3] 13.82 km (4:41 / km) +218m 4:21 / km
shoes: New Balance W890 GH2

Subthreshold run (sort of?) - only me and Alice today. We ran together for probably 15 minutes before she finally decided the pace was much too slow. Ah it's a bit depressing how much faster than me she is but oh well, not much I can do. I will never be that fast so will just make the most of what I have :)

The run wasn't great - I had to stop briefly at one point because I felt lightheaded and sick. Legs were also really heavy for some reason? But I was determined to keep going, and in the end I was able to push quite hard. That last hill on Shore Rd was so bad though! Felt like I was running through quicksand.

Anyway, it feels as if I have an extra gear somewhere, but I'm just not able to use it... then again this may be wishful thinking.

Running 10:00 [2] 1.8 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: New Balance W890 GH2

Warm up and down jogging (slowly).
5 PM

Gym 55:00 [1]

Leg strengthening and injury prevention. Why are my quads so sore? Most of my leg muscles were pretty tired actually. But good to do this anyway :)

Aqua jogging 30:00 [1]

Easy aqua jog because I couldn't be bothered to do it in the morning after I parked the car close to med school, but far from the pool. Legs felt a lot better for having done this.

7 AM

Road cycling 33:00 [2] 13.4 km (2:28 / km) +123m 2:21 / km

Feeling a little tired after yesterdays efforts. A bit windy too... still, it was no Hurricane Sandy at least.
5 PM

Road cycling 28:43 [2] 13.45 km (2:08 / km) +79m 2:04 / km

Cycled home. Had work in the evening and wasted all my time in the afternoon trying to fix a problem with the image analysis software. Turns out it was the computer's fault and not the programme - all I had to do was change computers. Didn't go to the gym.

Running intervals 50:05 intensity: (32:05 @2) + (18:00 @4) 8.51 km (5:53 / km) +107m 5:32 / km
shoes: inov8 X-talon 190s (red)

Churchill Park sprint loops. Wasn't feeling too bad this morning, quite strong actually. But the times weren't that fast - 9:04 and 9:01. Only did 2 loops today but felt as if I could have done 3 or 4 which is good :) Slow parts were the bumpy ground in Churchill Park and the stream crossings - I didn't keep up the intensity very well here.

Good to get back to this and starting to make progress towards being fast for world cup!
6 PM

Orienteering race 46:38 [4] 8.18 km (5:42 / km) +147m 5:14 / km
shoes: inov8 X-talon 190s (red)

Summer series at the domain. Had a bad day and just felt like I wanted to run hard, so I did. Probably this is the opposite of what I should have done in terms of injury risk... but I really needed to run and really didn't want to go to the gym. It felt good to run hard - must not have pushed myself hard enough this morning. Did slow down quite a bit after the first 20 or so minutes though.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 1.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: inov8 X-talon 190s (red)

10 PM

Strength and conditioning 40:00 [0]

Stretching :)

8 AM

Road cycling 30:42 [3] 13.39 km (2:18 / km) +157m 2:10 / km

Legs felt strong so I went a little bit faster today. It was fun :)
5 PM

Stationary bike 20:00 [2] 11.68 km (1:43 / km)

Warm up on the bike, read an article about inflammation in the CNS... it was way too general and didn't tell me much.

Gym 45:00 [1]

Core and upper body. The leg raising/lowering exercise Toby gave me is such a killer! Arrgh and my arms are really weak.

Just more to work on I guess.
6 PM

Road cycling 25:58 [3] 12.5 km (2:05 / km) +79m 2:01 / km

A guy stopped next to me at the lights at the Strand. He looked like he was fast (major stereotyping, I know), and I expected him to pass me. But then he didn't. I didn't want to seem like a slowpoke, so I went faster. He just kept following me though, all the way to Kohi where he turned off. He was probably just going for a cruisy ride and wanted to go slow, while I'm killing myself fighting the wind! By the time I reached St Heliers I was actually pretty darn tired.

Hahaha I'm such a fool sometimes.
