6 mins off the leaders time. This was a group start for the 21AS "Sledge" category. A quick run up the hill to the first control and then a pack of 3-4 (once Tyson cottoned on just before reaching 2) of us pretty much followed Paul to 2, 3, 4, 5. Then we came up the side of the hill a bit wide of the mark for 5 and I fell for it - thinking we must be on track and hence the control a bit to the right. Meanwhile Paul corrected and shot off like he had found 5 and was going for 6. I scrounged around and finally found 6 and by 7 (thus winning the descent shorts!) was with the B pack of Tyson and Mike (no not Mike Tyson). The splits show me being only a minute off the lead here and what I should have done was hoofed it up the hill along the fence. But paced it with the others and hit 7 a bit slower, then I lead to 8, gained pep and raced off to 9 successfully and then opened the gap to 10, but went high and hit the boulders SSW of 10, eventually getting it after the B train left, losing 2 minutes. Despondent I had directional problems going to 11 - lost a minute here, and then made it back with the calf in tact feeling ok. In hindsight - sticking close to Juffy would have been the better thing to do.
