Orienteering race 1:23:05 [3] 7.7 km (10:47 / km) +260m 9:14 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

H2 @ Nganga (GPS 8.8km)

Not the best of runs. It was clean enough (except for a bit of a blow out at 17) but I never really felt like I got out of second gear. Really enjoyed all of the complex rock controls and the presence of north lines, although the lack of reserve punching boxes on the map was somewhat disconcerting :P

Course made good use of the best features and was up to Juffy's usual high standards. Thanks to Juffy, Jack, Sue and Carol. Almost time to take a break Juffy!

Event: John XXIII

Orienteering race 18:15 [4] 2.8 km (6:31 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenalin GTS

Long course at JXXIII

First error was coming out of 3 and heading back to 2. Got about half way and headed back to 4 - probably 20-30 seconds. The rest was fine and reasonably clean, although I think I missed one or two of the best routes.

Orienteering race 10:35 [4] 1.7 km (6:14 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenalin GTS

Short course @ JXXIII.

Chasing start sprint challenge - 30 second intervals with slowest from the long course off first. I started in between Rachel and Steve.

Saw a glimpse of Rachel at 1 and then could see that she had more or less caught Andre by 2. Kept nearly running into them for a few controls on the in and out legs. Nearly collected Steve in between 3 & 4. Steve caught me at 8 and got ahead at 9, Rachel and Andre were still leading at that point.

Lost sight of them all as I headed to 10, punch and saw Rachel coming from a strange angle. Then I saw Steve coming back down from 11 back to 10. I had only seen Sten once in the middle of the course and there was no sign of tRicky. Pushed hard all the way back from 11 and managed to hold them all off.

Great fun way of organising a race - I had people in my sights most of the time and could feel Steve breathing down my neck. Might have to let Ceri have a go next time though.

Thanks to Craig for the courses - great use of a tight area and for letting us have a bit of extra fun at the end.
